steeliekatcher,

For what it's worth, I try to keep the krap to a minimum. And after 20 years I've bought my share of it. But it's taken me that long to get it down to a couple of rod holders up front for pulling plugs; I do not use a rod storage device as noting works better for me than em sticking out aft. I did install a side pulley & lock on my seat next to me so I'm not out of position when dropping or hoisting the anchor; it works very well for me. Other than that I keep two PFD's and a spare set of Helly Hansen's in the hold. I may bring a heater or small flat camp stove for the wife but buddies can fend for themselves (otherwise they get soft and want me to do all the rowin). Everything else just seemed non essential and only got in the way or never worked as well as I thought it would. In my defense I can only say: they all seemed like a good ideas at the time. Nowdays I look at my boat like my vest. Less is best.

Ditto on that side pulley and lock. I got my first driftboat almost 2 years ago. I am keeping all of the extras to minimum. I don't even pack a heater (rowing keeps me warm). When you get two buddies in the boat with rods, tackle, etc. it fills up fast. I did add a 3rd rod holder behind the front seat so I can pull a plug along with the 2 in front. That works good. I added a removable seat at the back, which I use when flyfishing on the Yakima River. With that seat you can spread out two casters and it comes out when you don't need it. Take care.

hey you have to find out what works for you ...they are right less stuff is better but some of the little details (extra rod holder or heater) can make for a more productive or at least pleasant trip...it's about what makes you happy right? rolleyes

now quit worrying about it and get some fish blood on that new boat thumbs
