Fished out of Pt Defiance from 8:30 to 11:30 and landed lots of shakers between 120' and 150'. Unfortunately no keepers. Hottest lure seemed to be the small white B-2 squid 18" behind a small hotspot flasher. Tried other things to try to avoid the shakers, but they were nailing just about anything.

I tried just about everywhere, caught at least 30 shakers, 2 or 3 of which were maybe 22 inches but I didn't measure them, and I had a couple fish that were probably pretty good size snap my line out of the release and give me a couple head shakes before coming off. One of these was in a big ball of bait off Owens Beach, and the other was off Neill Point, which is where I also released a couple of those 22 inch or so shakers.

One thing that was pretty interesting was the amount of bait in Quartermaster Harbor. But on the incomer at least there were no salmon there. These were likely hog herring getting ready to spawn - perhaps too big for the dinks that seem to be all there is out there to eat? Should have motored back over there and tried it on the outgo but I kept marking bait and hooking the occasional fish at PD, so I stayed there except for running over to Spring Beach and trying there long enough to determine that it was dead.

Ran into a buddy who motored all the way over from Manchester to fish PD - must not have been real great over there in the AM rolleyes

There was a pile of moochers over at Dalco that I stayed away from with my wires, but I heard of at least one good fish caught there. There's some around, but not like they were earlier in the week. I'm sleeping in tomorrow and hitting it hard next week when the tides are better sleep

The fishing was GREAT! The catching could have used some improvement however........

Try mooching the grain elevators on Schuster Parkway. Fish close to the ships that are their.
It's a hot spot this time of the year, I've been working on the Foss waterway and have seen a lot of feeders being netted. banana

There is a theory that when large freighters move in and out of port the low freq. vibes from the props attract salmon ( might have sumthin to do w/churning up all that mud n stuff also) I remember seein a video re this some years ago and it was pretty convincing.

Now that you mentioned it I would have to say that there is something with the big boats because I have always landed a fish at Point Def. when trolling just infront of the ferry or right behind it this was something that I ended up doing. I was always time the ferry at the dock on the Tacoma side.
