I'm taking a customer on the Sol Duc late Feb. and was wondering how is this river this time of the year. I know weather plays alot with this but with years pass is this a good time to go? I'm staying at the Sol Duc Lodge and doing their trip package and they fish the upper part.

Fish On,

ErnDog

Pretty quite this weekend. Few fisherman. Fewer fish.

Sol Duc is an Indian word meaning "River full of Rocks" wink

Although Jeff's place is located at the mouth of Bear Creek, I can say with 99% certainty that'll you'll be fishing from Maxfield to Rayonier.

Good timing for wild steelhead, but a month early for even the earliest springers ... typically the very first ones are caught in the latter half of March and that's even a rarity.

Have fun smile

One trick you can use is the search feature. Search Sol Duc on "open forums" and you will get a whole bunch of hits. Then look at the ones that seem to fit the time frame you are looking at.

Many of the runs are impassable in low water. When there is enough water it is still a very difficult place to fish.
