Well, I went to the river today just to throw a few casts. Well, the reel seemed to cast very smooth, and the anti backlash adjustment seemed to work very well. Ended up setting that to 0! But! Every time I would cast, the reel would make a kind of whining sound. Not sure how to explain it. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee. Is this normal? Not sure what to expect from this reel yet and would like to know if this is something I should be worried about. Any suggestions?

I bought one early this fall. loaded it with 30lb power-pro and used it to throw spinners for silvers. I was really impressed with it's peformance. So impressd in fact that I am planning on buying another for mu plug rod. Two thumbs up!

Paranoid: does it make the same sound? I bought mine off of ebay. Its supposed to be new, thats why Im concerned. If its supposed to sound that way then great! Its a nice reel and casts very well. I like the anti backlash adjustment "outside" of the reel vs having to take the reel apart to adjust the breaks.

Have you checked to see if it needs to be lubed up? Just a thought, I had the same problem with one of my curados and after a little lube the noise was gone. Just an idea, hope it helps.

Well, I bought the reel off of ebay. This is the reason for my concern. It is supposed to be a brand new reel that was a show room model so supposedly hasnt had any use. I wouldnt imagine that if it were new that it would need a lubing. If there is in fact something wrong with this reel I could send it back and get a different one, but I dont want to hassle the guy if this is normal for this reel. The only reels ive used so far are a (piece of crap) garcia tgc 6500c and a Calcutta. I dont have so say anything about the calcutta. The cheap garcia is tough but very sloppy although it makes no noise when casting. Im wondering if this varaible break anti back lash system might be whats making the sound. ??? ??? ??? confused

I wouldn't worry about it, I have a new 4601 C4 and it does the same thing. That's just the way they are, doesn't affect it in any way. By the way what did yoy get it for off of eBay. I got mine for a birthday present and my mom paid $37.99 at Bob's here in Longview, they had a great deal about a month before Christmas.

I was watchimg that reel on e-Bay also. My reel may make a little noise when I throw but I always atributed it to the power-pro line. I think it is more of a vibration than an actual noise if I remember right. It has not gotten worse and I have casted it thousands of times. I would rather throw spinners with the 5600c4 that with my Calais or Curado. If you want to get rid of it let me know. ...P

I have a 6500 that does the same thing. It might just be the sound of the ball bearings which is normal. I also have a 550 plus that doesn't have ball bearings and it casts very quietly. Both are great reels.

Those C4's tend to make a whizzing noise. I would call the factory and ask them if putting a little lighter grease in the reel would help.

Try putting a drop of rem oil (the teflon gun oil) into each of the bearings, and on the level wind up front. I like rem oil because it doesn't seem to thicken much in cold weather.
