A while back I posted about a motor problem I was having. I had taken it to a repair shop in auburn because it was close. They had qouted me $1900 to rebuild, or $475 to fix it pretty good or I could get by for $275 they told me that one after I told them I had to think about it. Well I picked my motor up and took it to three rivers where I purchased my other boat and motor. I get a call today $85 bucks if I want them to change the lower unit oil. They found a bad connection in the wiring and only one cylinder was firing. They cleaned the connection and now it runs great. A far cry from needing both carbs rebuilt , idling valves cleaned , and crank being noisy. I aint taken or buying any more fishing stuff from them anymore. I wont say the name but they recently had one of this sites boat and motor stolen from their yard with out them even noticing. Lessons learned the hard way. I should send a bill for my money back sense they cant even diagnose a loose wire.

Troller, thanks for the info and the update. Makes you think. Working automotive I see the same thing happen all the time. Recived a car from the dealer today that they claimed the head needed to be removed to perform further inspection for the problem. After we performed our inspection found that the coil wire( 6 bucks) was burnt out. Replaced it and ran great. Kinda scary.

An honest repair shop is harder to find then one might think. frown

Glad to see Three Rivers treated you right. Look how many customers they probably just gained by being honest.

Easy, you showed great restraint on your post after all the trouble the OTHER shop put you through, more then I could.

I'm new to your board and am pretty suprised to hear bad things about Auburn. I've had alot of work preformed in the past with no problems.
What Gives?
I read easy's story and was pretty suprised to hear them not ownin up! That doesn't seem like the shop I know.
I also read the responses to easy's story and to be honest...these guys sound like they have too much time on their hand when they should be fishin!
I'll give easy some credit do to his case but come on!!
I guess my response to Juvy @ sea is did you give them a chance to make it right, or did you just cry and whine? I get the feeling I'm not getting the whole story.
I like the work I get from them and reccomend to all.

Reminds me of the lady that recently had two breasts removed and then was told they goofed and she didn't ever have cancer. Oops. Sorry, but the tests got mixed up.

Does anyone think the hospital purposely goofed so they could do the surgery and collect the $?

Same thing here. Probably just a human error. The mechanic noticed the engine running on one cylinder, assumed the older engine needed rebuilding and then estimated costs. They probably didn't purposely misdiagnose the engine to screw you out of money. The mechanic just goofed.

My point? For serious medical or mechanical repairs, always get a second and third opinion. Too many people(mechanics included) assume they know what is wrong before doing a thorough examination.

ET,

I'm glad to hear you say that, that's what I was thinking.

The first one of us that has never made a mistake, please stand up now.

That said, when looking at an expenisve repair, a second opinion is not a bad idea.

You are probably right as to human error. But I would think checking the spark woudl be one of the first things you would do. Any way I have just really lost interest with spending my money their anyway. Customer service in their repair dept. sucks. You park in the back of their lot to drop your stuff off . Hopefully their is a spot open. If not you park across the street and dodge cars to get over their. You then have to walk around to the front then all the way to the back to fill out your information. Now you get to walk back out the front and around to the back to give them you motor. Because they wont let you walk the 20 feet out the back door to where your rig is. Oh yeah hear is good one Apperantly they now keep an eye on this site as they called the shop where I took it and wernt to happy with the bad press they have gotten. They gotta problem they can email me its in the profile. I dont have a problem telling my side of this to them. a second opinion saved me lots of money and glad I decided to take it to 3 rivers afterwords. I will take it their first next time and save the $60 or so I spent on a misdiagnosis from the other shop.

With a full lot you would think somebody is doing something right.
It sound to me like troller should stop throwin money at his motor and invest in a stair master.
Happy headaches to 3-rivers!!!

Hogey Roller,
hmmm two whole posts-both defending auburn sports & marine. In the first one you personally attacked juvy @ sea and in this last one you personally attack troller and three rivers. You must have the inside scoop on this whole situation. I've had my own problems with auburn S&M and yes I gave them the chance to make it right and no I didn't just cry and whine about it. In the end they did not do the right thing. If you want, I'll tell you the whole story. Seems like you are emotionally involved with this. Are you dating one of the mechanics down there or what?

Hogeyroller,

Yeah it sure sounds like you have some personal reason for sticking up for them. If you cant defend them without making a a#$%hole of yourself it wont do you any good. Parking lot full have you ever been their. THey are lucky if 8 rigs could park back their and they have a total of 4 up front. Headache for 3 rivers no a pure pleasure. $81.00 and I have my motor back and it runs great. I ran it at the lake and runs and idles perfect. So Hogeyroller get off your knees and quit serviceing ASM .

Take a look in the mirror. Who came on this site and started giving people a bad time. All of what three posts under your belt . I have stated nothing but truths about what occured. If you want to take your stuff their do it I wont. Yep you must definitly work for them do you bring your knee pads and 5 gallon bucket of lip gloss to work with you or do have your own locker where you keep it at work. Customers can bring their own vasoline they will need it .

After reading these posts I feel compelled to tell about my fishing partners experience with them. They have a nice 22' cuddy that had a small oil leak, they did not look that hard for the leak. The leak was noticed when taking the boat out of the water so they took it to a place in Auburn to have them look at it. Well to make a ****ty story short, this shop pulled the motor to notice that the oil had a small leak. Something that should have and could have been resolved by just checking the filter and a couple hours of labor. The bill for them to remove and install a new oil filter by removing the entire motor was over $1,500.00 fight they have since changed the filter in under 30 minutes and can you believe it they didnt have to pull the entire motor to do it.
I told them i would have sought legal advice to how best handle this mess.

Steelheaddude, I don't think anyone is trying to put them out of business, just trying to keep us consumers update on how a company handles there customers so we can make an informed decision on who we give our hard earned money to.

If a company can't handle the public discussing there service then maybe they should provide a better service so next time people talk about them it's about how happy they are to be a customer.

Without taking sides, the toughest part of customer service is the fact that customers don't generally remember or acknowledge the many good experiences but they yell from the mountain top about just one bad experience. The lesson , then , is that to attain truly good customer service you must go out of your way with every customer contact to make sure the experience is positive and free of "issues". That's truly a tough challenge.
