My wife and I are planning a trip in June was wondering if anyone had ever been. What was it like good or bad. We will be targeting Springers and hali with some bottom fishing in the evenings for Lings and cod. Ive never fished that far north so any info would be greatly helpful. beer

I have fished Knight Inlet in early May. The fishing that was best (and it was white hot) was quite far up the inlet. The Chinook chase the oolichan who are on a spawning run to the river at the head of the inlet. All the kings were cookie cutters, 20-25lbs. very fat and sassy. At that time of year the chinook were heading back out the inlet. Not sure what you will find in June and as I recall Chinook Cove is near the mouth of the inlet. This is big water and afternoons especially can get dicey with winds coming down the inlet. Hope this helps.

I fished all around Telegraph Cove, including Knight Inlet as far as the lodge, and didn't do well at all. Coho and Sockeye were closed due to predicted low returns (sockeye after I already booked the trip frown ), rockfish limit was reduced to 1, legal size lingcod were non-existant and I never saw a halibut caught by anyone in 10 days, and chinook, which are supposed to peak in July, was a bust, but that might have been due to the abnormally dry fall that delayed everything. But I don't know, up there they have way too long an open chinook season and way too much pressure from guides, and I found that though the area was drop dead gorgeous and the fishing spots numerous, relatively uncrowded, and an absolute delight to fish, the catching generally sucked. Especially when I got back, like the next weekend, when LW sockeye opened and I filled the boat with limits no prob, then went over to the Canal where I finished out my card with kings, then on down to the CR and GH to half-fill my other card with kings to 42 pounds and not a silver under 10 laugh Fishing up there is way cool - where else can you fish without seeing a trace of development for hours? But if it's catching that you want, stay home rolleyes

The fishing was GREAT! The catching could have used some improvement however........

My experiences fishing the area has been great. I'll be up in that area again this summer (three years running), and expect similar results as previous years.

I've always gone in July and August, so I don't know what the fishing will be like in June. I do know that they get early runs of kings, so fish will be available. You may have to work for them, but you'll get into fish.

As for bottomfish, such as halibut and ling cod. They are for the taking, although not as numerous in numbers as other areas such as Nootka Sound or Barkley. Last year while fishing the 2nd week of July I helped a guy from Chinook Cove land a 164 pound halibut. That's more than enough proof for me. I never fished for halibut or ling cod, but I did cathc a few ling while trolling for salmon.

The enf of July and the first few weeks in August are your prime times. This will get you into four runs of salmon such as sockeye, pinks, chinook and silvers. Silvers will be open August 1, sockeye will be decided later in the season.

Good luck!

This will be my 4th year fishing Telegraph cove in mid June. The inside was closed to all ling cod fishing last year but we released a few. There are rockfish and halibut around, and chinook fishing can be good in Knight Inlet and around the islands at that time of year. The owner of Telegraph Cove Lodge, Gordy Graham, will have a booth at the Portland Sportsman's Show next week and will be happy to answer questions. He fishes about 7 mornings per week in June.
The previous comment on weather is correct. Tides can be as high as 17 feet and tidal current very strong. Take a good tide and current table and watch the afternoon wind.
