What a sad day! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the astronauts aboard the Columbia.

Indeed a very sad day. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of those who we have just lost. A very sad day for mankind.

Doesn't it seem like the US is getting more than it's share of bad news lately? It's just one damn thing after another. frown

What a dangerous job, I sometime forget but today I can remember the look on the families faces years ago. It is a sad day! Puts a lot of things in a different light today

This is a hard subject to post about.

Good people, and good Americans die every day. There are certain scenarios that make death harder to swallow than others, like when a person is striving to do something for the greater good of mankind, or a life is taken needlessly by someone in some violent act, or it could be that someone dies at a young age, and we don't understand why. My thoughts are, those that go before us are reminders from the man upstairs to introspectively think about what we can do with the little amount of time we have here, and strive to give it all to something bigger than ourselves.

With this in mind, maybe we can all take some time to be a little nicer, try to be a little more productive, show those who we care about -that we do- and live a little for those who are gone.

My thoughts and prayers are with all seven of the people who we lost today, with their families, and especially with their children.

Gods speed everyone…

We as americans are luckey to have a great space program, but when things like this happen it is sad. My thoughts and prayers are for the families of the crew, may god bless them.

We really do have a graet space program, if we look at how many times we have gone up without problems or mishaps. The last mishap was the Challenger, and that was in 85 or 86. We have flown 100s of missions. Hopefully NASA can figure this one out so we can continue.

God bless the crew and thier families.

Sad, sad news. I still don't know the whole story. First reports came in as we were doing turnarounds this morning ... and was on the water all day until just a little bit ago. I'm scrambling to get things ready for tomorrow so that I may sit down and learn more about the tragedy ... many prayers from us for those who lost friends / loved ones frown

Put a damper on an otherwise super day cry

It was truly a very sad way to end their mission. They were 16 minutes from touchdown. The only positive spin I can put on it is that they were doing something they had all wanted to do for their entire lives. My prayers go out to the families.

Easy,

I was working for Generail Dynamics in San Diego CA., a aerospace co. that built the main cargo compartment and doors. We all took it hard at the time. This still put a lump in my throat and a tear in the eyes.

This is still a sad reminder of things that we can't control, that can happen.

My sympathies to the family.

For the Challenger, I was in the motorpool of the 124th Signal Battalion, Fort Carson, CO. It had snowed that day.

Oh, by the way, four soldiers died the other day when their helicopter went down in Afganistan while on a mission to protect us from future terrorism. I guess I must have missed the thread here where everyone was expressing their heartfelt sorrow for the loss of heros, or maybe no one here knew because it only got a few minutes news coverage instead of the parade of coverage the Columbia gets.

I guess they can't lower the flag to half-staff when soldiers die that way because it would rarely fly at full-staff at the rate service members make that sacrifice.

Just want to keep things in perspective.

GH,

I can't speek for anybody else, but I do apreciate what our troops are doing for us. No they don't get the press the Columbia is getting, because they are in the news every day, be it only a blip.
My oldest daughter is in the Army, a nurse, who will more than likely spend time over in the mid east when we go in to kick SADDAM's ****.

BILGERAT IS VERY SAD. HE TIES MORE FLIES BUT IS STILL VERY SAD. BILGERAT THINKS SOMEONE MADE A VERY POOR DECISION NOT TO DO AN EVA BEFORE COLUMBIA LEFT THE ISS.

Easy

Senior year in History Class.

I was watching the news last night and they said the debris is spread out over 100 miles. It is going to take them years to figure out what went wrong.

I was in the library when our librarian came in crying and gave us the news of the Challenger explosion. I Think I was in the 8th grade then. Seems like it was just yesterday. It's strange how you can remember exactly where and what you were doing when things like this happen.

Easy-I was out humping KC-135 tankers on the flight line at Beale AFB. Pretty shocking, I was at Edwards AFB to see the Challenger land on the flight before it exploded. Amazing how big these things are.

Hate to see this stuff happen. Odds are an accident will hit any endeavor, just a matter of time. Hopefully it will be a long, long time before it happens again with NO loss of life!
