Need you help guys. EZSteer sucks!!!!!!!!!!!! Too much drag and causes too much stern instability. I hate it. Plus it is impossible to lift the kicker above water line without the damn EZsteer assembly to come apart. I know that they have different sizes, so trust me, I have the correct size. One size longer than what I have and the rods will not be able to retract properly for the alignment of my main and the kicker. And back trolling is a biatch because a good wave will make the two motors split apart like an olympic gymnist. I need something new and independent of the main outboard. I want a tuough and reliable system and I really don't care for the price. I got to get rid of this uselss EZsteer piece of crap.
Thanks

Click below for details. Where is Angler's Expo at? Can you describe the operation of the TR1 and is it easy to install? Does it have any negative features, drawbacks, or limitations? Thanks

I need something new and independent of the main outboard If you're truly determined to go this way then disregard my reply. This set-up allows both motors to tilt independently of each other. It is stable. AND, it is cheap. Steering link The TR-1 IS great, but expensive.

Just so you know a TR1 setup is not a couple hundred dollar item. I believe they are 2-3g's

I think, I can live with this. But can it be used with a kicker on hydraulic lift bracket? Do you have a link to that product?

My C-Dory came rigged from the factory with this set-up. However, I've seen lots of similar ones over the years. Mine is simply a S.S. rod with spring loaded sockets threaded onto each end. These sockets attach to balls affixed to the front of the motors. Balls A hydraulic lift bracket (such as a Garelick or OMC) might complicate things but the rod can be popped off in 2 seconds if needed. I keep mine in a piece of pvc pipe(with end caps) when I'm not using it. I store my kicker fuel hose/primer bulb the same way. Here is another take on the same idea web page Cabelas

If you have the money and want a true remote steering with little hassle go with the TR-1. I've had several systems over the years but have been with TR-1 now for the past 10 years and wouldn't use any other system for steering my kicker. That also goes for steering my main motor with the Gladiator. Best autopilots on the market.

Sorry guys, I am a bit confused with your all of your information. Thanks though, more info sure is better than not enough. I am new at this and probably not too clear with you for what I want. Basically I want a reliable independent hydraullic system that can be used for the kicker hydraullic lift and also to steer the kicker with a remote controller (either wired or wireless). Seems like the TR1 Gold might do the job but their sales haven't returned my mail yet.
Thanks

Has anyone ever heard of a Trol-Eze made by Goetz Engineering?

I have the Trol-Eze installed on my boat and love it. It doesn't compare to TR-1 but it works better for me than the EZ-Steer since I have an alaskan bulkhead. The downside is that I have a 21' Trophy hardtop and if the wind picks up it seems that I'm constantly having to make small adjustments to keep the boat running straight. I am happy with the system as a whole.
