I am fairly new to this board and i am planning a trip to ak for the summer. I booked with a guide, fairly cheep, and some other guide called me up off of some info i requested from soldotna chamber of commerce and basically said my guide is a crook!!!!!! well not sure what to do...................also want to know if the kasilof IS good to fish in mid july......one guide says yes one says no, whats a poor guy to do?!

Just keep it simple and book with Bob!!...your trip will be fantastic if you do!

I'm jealous! You get to go to AK, eh! (no I'm not Canadian).

Good for you. Are you going to do any fishing up there? There was a 75# taken there last summer, it was a whopper and was featured in the Seattle Times.

Wish I could go. I'd like to have a shot at a whopper.

Maybe it was Ed. I sure miss him stumbling around in the boat and cussing at me.

Lots of cheapie charters in that area and as a general rule, you're gonna get what you pay for.

Mid-July for kings in the Kasilof ... if you go with one of the 6-8 guides that exclusively on the river all summer long (I am one of those ), you're probably gonna find some pretty good fishing if the timing is normal.

Lots of folks think there are no fish in there in July because they don't fish the river enough to figure out where to catch them under the extreme high flows of July.

My wife and I went fishing on the Kasilof in late June, 2001....Good Sockeye timing but between King runs. That didn't stop Bob from putting her on a 36# chromer.
We went the third week of July 2002 and between four of us in the boat, probably brought 10+ kings to the boat and only kept quality fish.
If there are fish around, Bob will put you on them and with top quality gear.
I used one other guide on the Kasilof and he was a nice guy and worked hard but didn't produce like Bob.
