My Dad purchased a Black Box in January. I was curious to find out how much success everyone's had after buying a black box vs. not having one.

Tom Nelson and John Keizer from salmonuniversity.com seem to like them. They're pretty respectable people so I'd trust their knowledge. Just want to see how the board members respond.

Thanks,

SFJ

Depends upon what electrical charge your boat creates before you add the black box. In my case, the charge was high. If I had to guess I'd say 30% better hit ratio, but part of that improvement is probably due to getting the boat dialed in all around.

The BB has had a large impact on my boat for the last couple years....

Best investment I have made.

They usually can only help with success. The biggest thing is making sure your boat doesn't have a "negative charge field". You can test this by connecting a volt meter positive lead to your downrigger cable and the negative lead to any good ground on your boat. You want to have at least .6 + volts on your cable. In order to ground your cable you have to isolate the weight from the cable with a non metal connector. I use either a piece of #150 mono line or a piece of white nylon cord. What the blackbox does is give you the ability to adjust that voltage up or down.
