I was taking a break at work yesterday. I work next to the green where king county just did the work to enhance the river for salmon. They made it wider and added trees so the juvenile fish can get out of the current. I met a guy counting fish for king county . He told me they had a early hatch and with the high waters the last couple of weeks it washed alot of fingerlings with the egg sacks still attached into elliot bay. I hope this doesnt hurt to much. I guess we will find out in four years.

Those were probably chum fry. They migrate to the estuary almost immediately after they hatch. High water wouldn't make eggs hatch any faster than they normally would.

Most of the green river coho are hatchery fish. They're reared in the cement ponds and released as smolts. The wild coho spawn high up in the system and in smaller tributary creeks. They have evolved survival mechanisms to deal with high water events that are part of the natural process.

The main damage that flooding causes is either scouring out the gravel where the eggs were laid or covering them with a suffocating layer of silt.
