If you get a chance to look at the new STS magazine. Take a look at page 3. There is a 2 page ad for Stren line with photos. It shows a guy (he is smiling) holding up one of the darkest, scanknest (sp?), ugliest Chinook salmon I have ever seen alive. What a joke.
That's some kind of ad if your trying to sell your product.

Isn't it funny how some advertisers will use nasty fish like that not even realizing that the fish is nasty.

That fish definitely has the look of either an upstate New York fish, or maybe a Great Lakes fish. I'd put my money on NY.

As the ads for guides, gear, etc., and the recent ethics thread comparing "us" and "them", fish like that are not viewed the same over there as they are over here.

I'd guess that either someone "over there", or a total non-fisherman, did the layout for that ad.

Consider yourself lucky boys. That skankosaurus Oswego fish is typical of how most of the kings are when they enter the Midwest rivers. Once in a while you get a real beauty, but most of the time it's a goulash with fins.

Now you know why the hawkster doesn't fight the crowds for the dreaded Great Lakes chinook skankosaurus in the fall.

Funnier yet, people eat those bad boys. The freshwater Orcas (Drones) think they taste like chicken.

That Oswego county Ad fish is a coho, but it's the wierdest colored coho I've ever seen. You'd almost swear it was a chum with the green and slightly purple coloring it has.

Coho - They picked the right page to put the Maxima model on huh!

That model WAS the most interesting thing I've seen in STS for quite some time I must say.

I wonder if she fishes...

My son and I have fished for salmon and steelhead on the Oswego and Salmon rivers in upstate NY. The custom there is to take your fish to processing stations which are all along the river and adjacent roads. There you can have your catch filetted and wrapped for the drive back to NYC, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, etc.

It is amazing, repeat amazing, to see the fish that are processed. Most are black or at least dark. Many have fungus all over their bodies, rotting snouts, etc. The meat is typically light pink or gray and mushy.

And the main thing you hear is "She's a beauty Mac!!!" 'Tis a different world back there.

Which only goes to prove that even a t*rd will taste good if you put enough smoke and ketchup on it. Ouch!

Better be careful Gary, you voice your opinion about STS and someone will complain about it.

man no kidding,i live 2 city blocks from the Oswego river ,i am a true east coaster.please and i mean please do not stereotype us because our dept. of tourism does not have a clue.i will agree the fish in our ad is dog ass ugly and i might ad the guy holding it has on the dorkiest looking hat .but if i remember correctly the fish was some kind of igfa line class record.our salmon runs are comprised of the skankiest salmon ever concocted in a hatchery,i hate our salmon fishery ,it is mainly geared tworads the summer lake fishery(downrigger style)but our steelhead runs are some of the finest anywhere in terms of assessability.our dec just just did a creel study and surmised that a average angler spends approx. 23 hours to catch just one.what a joke ,more like 1 fish per hour if you know what to use,sts and certain web sites ,this one included,give more than enough info to be sussesful around here.hey didnt capt. armond castiglla do a piece on the salmon river for sts last year?that river is only a half hour away.
