Hey Bruce, just picked up the latest STS and saw your article on fishing around Craig, I really enjoyed it, sounds like you fished all the good spots, I'm kind of partial to "the Cape" (Ulitka) thats where I got "my" first 50 and a number of my guests have taken big fish there as well. Pineapple/Little Roller is another favorite of mine, 1 stop shopping there with salmon and halibut.
I'm glad to hear you weren't "buffalo hunting" (looking for big halibut) alot of guides in s.e. are realizing the importance of leaving those big breeders alone, I sure wish it would catch on else where before we get to the point that the state steps in (which I think they eventually will)
Anyways, thanks for the article, looking forward to getting back up there and running 1 of those 7 boats on the top of page 70.

Bruce,
I also agree with AKkings, nice article. I've never fished alaska, but have wanted to since I was a young boy. After seeing that pool of pinks, I almost packed up and left. Seems you and Rob had alot of fun with Bob. Looks like Rob is starting a program up there with Bob of Prince Of Whales Sportfishing, should be a great teams of guys to work with. The scenery is gorgeous up there, and seems the fish are plentiful. Good luck in the future and keep up the good articles. The STS crew is really starting to kick out some good articles.

LegitimateHooker ... I've got a legit question for you. Please don't read this as a bash, but your post here and your posting in the thread about "Zipperlips Revealed" brings up an interesting thought ...

You posted:

I don't see what the point was to posting such information. I don't have any zipperlips anymore because of such postings.
This post seems to refer to plant / catch information on local streams in your area.

Yet, when a similar posting comes up about an area that you don't live in, it seems okay and you commend the editors of the magazine that prints the article.

Couldn't his area be a local's Zipper there? Might he be saddened / PO'd if now when he goes fishing that the sportfishing operation has several boats fishing in an area rather than the one due to an increase in biz??

I'm not trying to single you out, but there seems to be a double standard out there.

I'm sure plenty of anglers moan when someone mentions something about "their" body of water, yet they turn around and watch a TV show fishing about fishing somewhere else, or buy a magazine that has an article about a glorious far away spot, etc ...

I guess I'm simply confused by all of this and wonder what others think???

We had this same problem in high school. You want to mess with ANY girl in your high school or the neighborhood. BUT don't even think about looking at my sister. I was lucky I had no sisters but all we wanted to do was some catch & release eek laugh

Thanks AK, it was good running into you at the sloop this afternoon. A day like today really makes you appreciate the program up north...good day overall to get out and I now have a new favorite bar in Ballard.

And yes, Robbo is getting a program going up there this summer. It's an easy trip up to Craig for some outstanding fishing and scenery. With a smolt due to show in late june/early july, that was probably my last big summer King trip for awhile...glad to get it in.

I'm not touching this zipperlip thing...

Bob,
After reading my posts over, your right that was a double standard, my bad. Just got a little fired up. I am not sure you can compare fishing in S.E. Alaska to fishing here in the harbor, but I totaly see what you are saying. Different people in different areas. My feelings are that Alaska has a huge sport and comercial fisheries up there, and they've got the fish to do it. Down here the fisheries aren't quite as good. The cowlitz used to be a brat factory, producing the highest number of hatchery steelhead in the state with a little over 773,000 winter smolts released in 99. that river used to take alot of the preasure off of other rivers. Now that the cowlitz isn't producing fish like it used to, people are forced to go else where. Rivers like the Wynoochee and the Kalama take on alot of the added preasure. It's just hard to see rivers 1/4 of the size of the Cowlitz taking on the overflow. Well anyways I've gotta get wrappin on this rod before I decide to make a run for the river.

Catcher, I'm going back to the last resort I worked for (Waterfall) which is about 15 miles from Craig, we fish the same areas as the Craig fleet.
