I like the 1143. It's a great drift rod,and can also be used for floats or side-drifting. Great for steelies, and will double as a lighter duty salmon rod.

I'd back off on the loomis and take a hard look @ the Lamiglas cert.pro 9 1/2' light or med power spin or baitcaster whichever you like.....allstar or rainshadow are also worth a look beer

I have a Loomis 1025C and it is a very good all-round rod. 8 1/2 8-17 lbs

I have used GLoomis rods since the mid 80`s and they have progressivly gotten cheaper .The guides used to be Fugi now they are Pac Bay.Cork handles was a good grade of cork and the threaded barrel was tight now the cork has more filler and the barrel is loose to the point of stripping . The finish of the blank used to be impervous to hot thinners now it will wipe off with alcohol .I would personally recommend another brand.

The Imx 1025 Loomis is a fine rod, but one of the last ones I'd use for side-drifting. Its a foot too short and med-fast to boot. You want at least a 9.5' rod with a soft: (read).. slow action, for the sweeping hook-set you will get. 99.9% of the time. If done right your bait will be behind you and looking to nail the corner of the fishes mouth without tearing out. Spinning rods rule here throwing the light baits. Get an old style Imx 1082s if you can find one & put a shimano 2000 stradic on it....... laugh

Right-on Ironhead, I'm hanging on to my old IMX's like they were gold. The new ones suck.... evil

i would go with a gl3 1141s or an imx model if u have more money if u want a spinning rod, or a gl3 of imx depending on ur budget 1143c for bait casting.

I have used and abused my 1025C and it has held up very well but it is 10? years old. The only way out is if I break it.

There warrantys have gone in the gutter .. I have 5 loomis rods and now if you send them back to have a ceramic guide repaired or just a factory defect be prepared to pay any where from 20 to 50 dollars to have a new rod sent back .. i would go with a rogue river rod or something else ..

1025 IMX for the drift rod and a 1082s IMX for the side drifting rod. If you're boonin', I'd use the 1141s IMX.

1143 would be your best all around bet for steelhead.. 1143 has just as much back bone as a 1025 and is more sensitive...I use 1143 spinners for side drifting. And my 1143C's for drift fishing.. You get an 1143 you cant go wrong! TM

if you know someone who ties up rods, i'd go with the 1143 rainshadow. don't waste your money on gloomis. rainshadow is the best rod you can buy. loomis has gone to garbage. the second best option would be allstar 1143 you can buy them ready to go. thumbs not trying to start a rod debate, just give you some good advise. good luck!
