Was wondering if anyone out there had any tips or tricks in starting there 4 stroke Yamahas.I have a 40 HP manual start jet which is on its third year but has been consistently hard to start.5 pulls average.I am also turning the impeller so that makes it worse mad I looked into an electric start conversion but replacing the flywheel and the rest of the components topped out at 1000 bucks eek Any info would be highly appreciated beer

My 4 stroke Yami 25 starts on 3 pulls max, even when it's freezing out, so I've never been tempted to worry about electric start. The first thing I would do is change the plugs, the next thing would be to have a good Yami mechanic look at the carburation.

Well..... to start with you probably should of had a Merc wink

I'd go along with Spawnout on the carb deal, but check the fuel filter, and I'm not familiar with a Yamaha but if you can drain the carb or mix a little gas and some dryer and run it thru.

Good luck smile

Definately check your plugs. Use good gas. Have you noticed it to be a little more tempermental on cold mornings? The two Yammi 4's (1 pull, 1 electric start) I have had hate cold mornings. Once they are warm they are fine though.

Put the motor in gear and turn the handle to full throttle 2 to 3 times. Put the motor back into neutral and set the throttle back to start. Give her pull and listen to her purr. Just make sure you pump the ball prior to these steps. It works like a charm on the kickers and should help on yours. Less pulling, more fishing laugh Jack

Hey Guys, having your motor start on the 1st or 2nd pull is almost as satisfying as landing a fish huh? Sure feels good to hear it purr and know you're going to get some fishing in. Let me know if your motors start a little easier, it's nice to keep track of success rates. Jack
