Just wondering how the fishing was down there? I was thinking of giving her a shot if it's worth the trip. Any info appreciated.

The kalama could be classified as a typical steelhead water. It has it all! All methods of fishing will work, just be smart and stick with what you know. If its pocket water you like head for the canyon, if you like typical head, pool, tailouts, fish below the canyon. Focus on choppy tails and flats for steelhead and big deep pools for springers. My biggest tip for you is pound it hard, there are fresh fish in the bama year round. I like to stay down low and work it hard with bait. Many guys just fish bait divers through everything. There is tons of access so poke around till you find em.

It was pretty slow there yesterday. Out of about 6 boats only ours got a fish. It was a nice hatchery fish, about 12 pounds. We used divers with shrimp. The water looks great, though.

I typically fish it two to three times a week and have not had a whole lot of success this year. I have been getting a few nates on sand shrimp but it is not worth driving too long for. I don't know where you are comming from but if you have to drive more than a hour you may want to go to your local river. There have been some big fish pulled out of there but not by me unfortunately. Last year I fished it with yarn and shrimp on the bottom. This year I went to bobber and jig. When I first started out on the jigs in early Feb. I was doing well but then it dropped off. I plan on going out weds and friday depending on work schedule.
