Downriggen,

I'm going to take your hints and head over to Quartermaster Harbor tomorrow morning. I'm going to drop a couple of crab pots and chase Mr. Blackmouth. I'm going to try to be on the water by 6:30 am. High tide is at 7:43. Any last minute advice?

Maybe I can help out here.

Troll fast. Fish in 100-150' of water. Keep your offering within 10' of the bottom. Use white /glow gear. If the white/glow gear is not working for you put on a Coyote spoon behind your Hot Spot. Use herring scent.

Thanks EL. Are you going to be out there tomorrow? At Quartermaster Harbor does tide matter? Is slack best there? Do you follow the "slot" into QH and go in as far as you can, staying around 150'? Should I motor around looking for bait first?

I haven't decided if I am going to venture out tomorrow or not. Depends on the weather.

You will notice the "bite" will greatly increase around a tide change - hour before, hour after. Troll with the tide.

If low light conditions exist, like tomorrow will probably be, don't be afraid to fish in less than 100' of water. On cloudy days, I have found a lot of fish in 70-90' of water.

I have not fished QMH so I can't give you any advice there. I am speaking in general with my suggestions above.

Good luck!

If I do go out tomorrow I will fish off of Redondo.

ET,

If you're by yourself, your best bet will a spoon of some sort. I am not big on the 'Yotes because only one side glows... I like the Sonic Edge (42" of leader) and I put a ten degree downward bend in the forward part of the spoon.. If there will be two of you, rig the other rod with a B-2 Mini Squid on 35" of leader (50#).

The trick to fishing QMH is keeping your ball down along the contour inside the "mouth" of the harbor. 130-140' seems to be the magic depth right now, but experiment a little until you find the bait/fish. Rule of thumb at QMH will be fish shallower (100-130') if bait is not present at the depth I indicated. It is a tricky contour to follow, but picture a large arc... Easy's rule of 10 feet from the bottom will get you into the fish. I like 5-7 feet within the bottom.

Most of you fish will be caught on the North side of Neill Pt during the Ebb, but ocassionally the fish in more towards Piner Pt...

Let us know how you do!

Downriggin'
