JD,
You succeeded (I am jealous).... I am day dreaming of the day when I have the BBQ smoking up a storm again (and a few beers). Unfortunately, we're not eating that good out here on the big pond. It is a great way to lose the beer gut though.
Give a garlic balsmic dressing a try once. I like to smoke the fish for about 2 hours over hickory then pour the dressing over the fillet. Fire off the coals and within 20 minutes..... Saute' (or BBQ) whole green onions in fresh dressing. Garnish with smoked pinapple slices.....
Way to go! Now I am starving....

JD,
Never been that unlucky to be on a Knox...
Back in the day when we could smoke anywhere, used to sit on the Mess Decks and smokes cigars and eat oysters... the Adams Class was great for them pukers!
Sure miss those constant 20-30 degree rolls!

When we were in the Bass Straights I remember walking forward from the mess decks and taking two steps on the deck, two on the port bulkhead, two more on the deck and two on the stbrd bulkhead, repeat 'till you get to forward berthing. Of course it was a short walk. We had that damn sonar dome too. If it came out of the water it would slam us side to side probably 2 feet at the bow as it would go back down. Check out the '88 south pac cruise book. That was my first deployment. Could not have dreamed of anything better.... http://www.ussbrewton.com

Oops, just read the rest of your post.. I remember the "Bubba B" well, one of our good sports rivalries from the Pineapple fleet!
