What kind of terminal setup do you use for sturgeon bank fishing with about 6-8 oz weight? do you use a spreader to prevent tangles when chuckin' it out a mile? Thanks for tho info!!

The only way you could get tangles is if your leader is too long or you are running your lead off a dropper. AuntyM is right, go with a slider. One of two ways to do this is get those plastic sleeves with a snap attached to it. Another way is to run your mainline through the eye of a snap swivel(end opposite snap) before tying on your leader

Here is my set up. I use a braided super line for the main line, around 50-80lb test. Main line tied to a large barrel swivel, about a two foot "shock" leader of dacronline to swivel. On the shock leader I thread a Duo Snap and a couple beads to protect the knots. To the snap I attach a 6-16 ounce weight. End of shock leader I tie another barrel swivel. To last swivel I tie a short dacron leader. I use 7/0-9/0 Gami hooks, barbless of course. If using shrimp for bait I use "magic" thread to tie the shrimp to the hook. Magic thread is just elastic sewing thread. When I put two to four shrimp on the hook I wrap about six inches of four inch wide mesh over the shrimp. The mesh is spawn wrap or something like that. This helps keep the bait on longer when bullheads and crabs start chewing at it. If using smelt or fish for bait make sure you hook the fish up with the head down and trim the tail to prevent spinning. Some people think I use too big of hooks, but I have no problem catching fish. Smallest was 22 inches, biggest was 67, and too big to keep. Good luck.

I used to use a short weight leader down below longview and long one up at bonneville with the exact opposite bait leader. Sliders are ok when down in sandy places but when you're in rocky country they're no good. We always used teardrop weights and put nails in them when they had trouble holding. Tie your mainline to the opposite end of the barrel swivel than you normaly would and hook your weight to the snap, and tie leader to the other end of the barrel.
