Any feedback out there on Okuma reels? Has anyone had any experience with them? They seem to be an up and comer atleast in their promotion and sales.

The action on these reels are great. A really smooth reel, however, the frame is larger than I like . An EF 30 is 11.5 oz I believe. That is a big framed reel if you are trying to match it to a light spinning rod. And that good looking trim. It's cheap plastic and easily wears off in short time.

I have been using the AV 30 and 40 and been totally pleased with them. My poor AV40 saw about a 100 chums and salt water this last fall before it would not take any more. I proudly retired it. For the buck, you can't beat them. thumbs thumbs

I like the little UL Avenger,I think it's the AV15. I'll be buying more Okuma's as I need to replace my reels.

I have an AV 20 and an AV30 and they're both great. I mainly run 6lb on the 20 and 8lb on the 30.They're super smooth reels and the price isn't bad either.

Great reels for the money. I own an AV 20, AV 30 and two Epix 30's. Have never had a problem with any and have owned three of the four for over a year now ( I fish about 100-120 days a year). Really smooth drag, lots of reel for the money.

Can't remember which one I have, but I bought two of them last year and use them on the boat for downriggin. Love them! Great deal and both of them are smooth operators.

Few years ago there was something about the handle coming off. I got one 3 years ago for a specific application and only use it 2-3 weeks a year and so far so good. Any news about the handle?

For a while they were giving 2 handles with the reels. My understanding is they have solved the handle problem though.

I just bought another off e-bay,it's a Fina FI-30. Cabela'a has them for $50,I got mine for a bid of $33. Not bad for a brand new reel with 6BB, and a 5.0:1 retreive.

Okuma has a bigger reel that may be suitable for halibut called the Convector..Looks like a real honey...I use Shimano TLD25 lever drag reels for halibut and fishing in Mexico and they are killer...but they are over $200 each...I think they would hold about 6,000yds of TuffLine 80#...I woould be interested in this reel as it looks great for the money.
