i finally got a job that pays me what i'm worth and i'm ready to get to spending some dough...first on the list is a long float rod setup..thinking about the allstar 1264(10.5', 10-20lb) and a shimano spirex 4000...anyone have or tried these??? next up is a 10' pontoon, probably one similar to those on steelheader.com

I dont know much about the rods. But I dont think you would be happy with the reel.I think its bigger than you would want.Plus with the quikfire trigger if you dont have the spool back agains the stops when you set the hook it will end up breaking before long.
Personally I think you would be happier with a little smaller reel.A couple to think seriously about would be the $59 Sahara 2000 or the Okuma avenger 30.I saw the Okumas for $22 on sale at fishermans marine. They have a 9 ball bearing model for about $50.The Okumas are turning out to be an excellent reel with as smooth a drag as you will find.I like my Sahara and other Shimanos but Bought an Okuma after hearing my friends rave about them.
This is just my opinion.I'm sure you'll get more.Hope its some help.

I have a TH 1264, 10" 6", 10-20 lb with a Stradic 4000. Just got a XML 10', 8-15 lb, with a Stradic, I'm going to try in the morning either on the Nooch or Sol Duc. Try the Stradic instead of the Spirex..
