Took Wednesday off to go hit the Springers again with our little 4 boat Armada. Fished the same area above Willow Grove as we did last week when we just hammered 'em. Well it wasn't nearly as hot as last week, but still a productive day. We boated 10 fish and released 6 natives for 4 boats/9 lines. The boat I was in got three and released one Native, biggest fish was 21lbs. My fish were a 10lb keeper and a high teens Native released. Big fish of the day came from one of the other boats that went 29lbs and change! That was one nice Springer! All fish were caught on Herring trolled in 12 - 18 feet water.

Well have to leave for Hawaii this weekend (for work, not pleasure) so hope the river is still open when I get back the second week of May!

unrules,

Is that the area on the Oregon side of the islands underneath the power lines?

This will probably be the last weekend I drag my boat down there and I'm hoping to finally put a springer in it.

GH,
That would be the place. Inside the the island from the power lines up past the ol' rusted out white ship.

Sounds like you guys have that AO dialed in! I'm still trying to figure out how I can escape the inlaws to get a little fishing in. It just isn't right to be on leave and not be able to fish! I think I may try to sneak out for a few hours in the morning, will probably take the DB down to the Cow for a bit and see if I can find a steelie or maybe even a springer. (And if I do the wife is gonna have a case of the a$$)

Man, that's better than we did. Fished upriver of you. 2 rods for 22 hours over the last two days for a net of one, yes, that is one, takedown, which we crackered thoroughly.

I quit. I'm taking the kids perch fishing, we'll try again next week if it's still open.

Got a Thursday report from the guys that could make it out there, nada! They got shut out , didn't mark many fish, no take downs. Just curious, are the Willamette numbers starting to drop?? I am sure these are Willamette fish we have been getting given the area that we fish, just wondering when the Willamette run starts to die down. When it does it will be back to Kalama, and Prawn Spinner time.

umrules,
I probably saw you up there the last few times I've been out.I've been below you about a 1/4 mile fishing kwikies.
We had been doing pretty good.Especially when the current was barely running and most boats were gone.We got fish everyday but yaesterday.
From 6 till 1 I saw one fish caught, one crackered off and I had one takedown.Pretty dismal day.
Trying to decide whether to hit it later this afternoon.(maybe go to the Cow instead)Will most likely be there in the morning.I guess I'll have to try that trolling thing for a bit.
Hope today and tomorrow are good days for you down there.
We'll be in a white predator with red stripes.I'll keep an eye out for you.
Heard that at slack wed trolling off Dibblee was pretty good.

Yes, the low slack has been pretty productive, although 'til this week it didn't seem to matter. All last week the bite was early, mid afternoon, late, incoming tide, outgoing tide, slack tide, trolling with the current, against the current, it just didn't matter. Wednesday, the bite did pick up at low slack and the best bite was roughly 12:00 - 1:30. Then yesterday....nada! Were you marking many fish down by the end of the island? Hopefully yesterday was just a bad day, and things will be back this weekend (well Saturday anyway) I know a couple of the guys are out there right now, so I'll try to get a report and post it a bit later.

Fished around 72 today and saw 1 fish caught ALL DAY! Didn't have one takedown. Really depressing. Hope you all did better.

Hey buddy, thanks for the email fishing report. Sounds like you guys have been doing really good. We're headed to Graz's land right now after a pretty good inport visit to Guam. Looking good for HiHium. Have fun in Hawaii and I'll yak at ya later.
