Seems lately (The past year or two), the stilly has a lot of silt in it. Especially the south fork. This usually screws up the main river below Arlington. Anyone know what's causing this?

Some of it has to do with simple math: extensive logging + Puget Sound Conversion Zone = lots of slides. One of the most limiting factors for salmonid recovery in the Stilliguamish drainage is lack of spawning habitat due to silt.

I've heard that there has been a fairly recent big slide somewhere around Gold Baisn on the South Fork which might explain increased siltation on that section.

As long as those hills on the south fork stay naked siltation will forvever plague the once great stilly.

There's one feeder creek on the south fork just above verlot that's causing most of the color. It's clay so it's not settling out and the river stays dirty all the way down.
The north fork gets puked on pretty hard in the Oso area. Deer Creek does its part, then just upstream from there it's Montague Creek and one smaller stream. The Boulder River's been experiencing slides in the last year too.
