I got the new sustain 2500 in feb. and it is awesome. It came with two titanium lip spools, oil, grease, and a soft case. After the first cast I was in love. After the first steelhead I gave my old Okuma away to my friend. I've caught about six or seven steelhead with it so far, two in the 16-18 pound range and the drag is super smooth. I highly recommend it. I ordered mine from bass pro shops but John's in Everett has one of the new stradic 2500s.

Thanks for the link. I just got the Stradic 4000 FH and used it last weekend. It is larger than my FE and FG 4000 Stradics. The spool is larger too and it evenly spools the line. Didn't need to use the shims provided. Can't wait to test out the drag on a fish.

Yea that is the Stella, it makes me drool. Mine cost about $240, kindda steep. I'm really into machining and that type of engineering though. If you compare it to the price of a good fly fishing reel it's more easy to justify spending the $$. It has more machined, intricate, and moving parts than any fly reel. Either it's a good deal or fly reels are over priced in general.

Fishforlife, check out the Stradic 1000 MGF. I came across this one in the 2500 size when shopping for my Sustain. I was going to buy the Stradic 2500 MGF, but it doesn't hold enough line for my purposes. I know Outdoor Emporium in Seattle has or had the 2500 size, but not sure about the 1000 size. My Sustain casts like a dream. Furthermore, I haven't had any major line twist problems, which is nice cause I like to switch up between spinners and drift fishing.

I believe they make a 1000 series. I've got a 2500 Stradic ($119) which I used for the first time last weekend.........it's nice! 1st Steelhead on it was 19 pounds.

The S-Concept makes the Shimano spinning reels so much better. The improvements are very noticeable. (For those who have one and also have the Daiwa's, take a close look at the two)

BTW, if you guys read the Stradic MgF review, it does not have the S-Concept. All the Stradic MgF's do not use this new design. So if you want the S-Concept, you will have to go with the normal Stradics.

If you want to stick with the brand Shimano, the Sustain would make a nice small trout reel. It also has S-Concept.

Thanks for visiting TackleTour.

The Stradic MGF doesn't include the S-concept, but it does include a magnesium rotor. Magnesium is flammable; I learned this grinding a VW Bug tranny to fit a twelve-volt flywheel. Hook a hog with this reel and you can take the term "my reel was smoking" to a whole new level. OK, the reel most likely won't catch on fire, but it would be cool if it did. Check this link out for more S -Concept info and picts. http://fish.shimano.com/us/en/fishing/products/reels/s_concept.html

Hahaha... yeah, smoking'! =)

It shouldn't since it's a magnesium alloy.

If it does, someone post the pic. hehe
