Just got back from a couple days at Cathlamet, we caught 6 and kept 5. On Thursday it was pretty hot and we both limited out on fish 12 to 21 lbs by early afternoon

But we had to take 2 away from a particularly pesky seal (not sea lion, harbor seal) who was purposefully dogging fishermen and stealing their fish. The first one was a real pain, my bud Richie had hook a hog of a hen springer that put on a couple 50 yard runs and jumped 4 times, a couple of those 5 footers! It was a slickback too (yum). He had her pretty much played out and heading for the net when this damn seal grabbed her right by the boat, bold as brass. Well, we weren't having any of that, I got on the motor and kept the boat right on top of the little pr!ck for about 5 minutes until he slowed down and appeared to want to come up for air, took the net and shoved it in his face, which made him drop the fish, and before he could turn around we had that 21 pounder in the net and in the boat

That damn seal looked at us for the longest time, and I thought he might have learned something about my boat, but the next fish he grabbed right after Richie hooked him and started peeling off line. Well, I got up on the step this time and as I was about to run over him he dopped the fish again. This one was 14 lbs and had both hooks in the gills, and was completely bled out and dead so no problem to drag him to the net right quick. Marked fish too fortunately. After that the seal left us alone - I caught a 12 and a 18, both keepers, with no sign of the seal, although I did horse them so as not to give him much of a chance.
Today we just fished the early tide and went home, and Richie caught a dink, 8 or so, that was marked, and I caught a 20 pounder that was wild and fought like it - had to chase it 100 yards. Saw the seal too, but he didn't bother us
