While we bandy about all of the big and worthwhile issues, let's not forget Edgar Martinez - Papi Mariner. 2000 hits, a lot of them with legs in worse shape than mine. Edgar gives the impression of being the consumate professional and a nice guy to boot. A good role model and a flat out great hitter. You go Gar!!!

One of my all time favorite Mariners.

Consumate professional.

Its a real shame that some of the other pros cant follow in his footsteps. He's one of those guys that earns the respect he is attributed.

I doubt they could get much for him now... at least nothing even close to what he is worth by just having a class act like him in your organization. His value to the mariners extends way past the batters box. He sets the standard for how a player should carry themself.

What a great guy to have on your team.

Looks like his legs are about shot, though. I hope he makes it through the season.

Would be nice to have him finish his career with the M's and retire in a blaze of glory and not try to keep going longer than his body will let him.

I have noticed that he seems to be chewing now! Has he always done that? What a bad image he is showing the youngsters that look up to him as an idol. If it's not chew, what is it?

I've seen him chew lots of gum before.... That might be it.

It is amazing that such a normal looking guy can do what he does. I swear his eyeballs are calibrated to a millionth of an inch.

I agree, class act. He's not going anywhere. He's worth more to the Mariners for fan appreciation than any other team. I hope the Mariners give him a good couple of final years, and that he retires gracefully. I have appreciated watching him.
