Just got an on the water report from some hearty soles who just wrapped up a 2 day halibut trip out of Neah Bay. The fishing was real slow and the fish were real small. There was a report of a 140# fish but most were what they called "chickens" and "chicklettes"..small fish. The weather sucked as usual and the better fishing was at Swiftsure and not Umatilla where I thought it would be a cake walk. Not so. The reopened area was pretty dead and had a ton of boats on it. Sounds like passing up this trip was not such a bad idea after all. We'll be out there on the 15th to give it a go. Gas is $2.00 a gallon and 20 -30 miles one way in heavy seas will suck lots of it. Halibut fillets are running about $300 a lb.

I dont know if you saw my "big butts post" it got rather off topic to say the least! We picked up a pair of 40 pounders at tabletop. We left from Neah in case the wind was blowing I figured we could find a sheltered place to fish. We also got a couple of legal lings. There was a crowd, but I heard the fish at swiftsure were smallish. I doubt I'll get back before the quota is supposedly gone....

Thursday we fished Table Top and it was slow. We picked up a 40 and a 20 and the rest were really small. Friday the weather was really rough. We fished swiftsure to pick up 4 more small fish, the biggest being 18 lbs. These are the smallest halibut I have ever pulled from Neah Bay. There were some bigger fish but not many from what I heard from the fish checker and other people. Supposedly there was a 140 brought in. I saw a 78, 65, and two 50s, but most of the rest of the fish were small.
