Fine them for what? They would have to commit a violation of law to incur a fine.

From reading the column it sound as if they are still trying to figure out if a law has been broken. The boundries of puget sound appear to be messes up. Federal and state dont sound like they have the same definition. If they can find they broke a law I hope they fine them. I also hope they clear up exactly what the boundries of puget sound are or atleast the law pertaining to them and polluting.

How's this different from the thousands of gallons if not millions of gallons sewage that the City of Victoria dumps in the straights every day? Deep water draw versus just spreading it on the surface? I think though that the Victoria sewage may be at least "screened" but that's about it.

I don't understand why everyone is shocked by this story. Its a daily occurrance in BC "aye". beathead

You know the reply " haven't caught [Bleeeeep!] today." That might change.

40 tons is a lot os [Bleeeeep!] and that is too close to the sound for comfort.

The 40 tons works out to about 10,000 gallons or about 10,000 cubic feet. This is just a drop. Think about it. The Cowlitz runs at 10,000 cubic feet per second ... How big is the strait, 10 miles? You couldn't find a scrap of this waste if you tried! (and why would you? :p )
