I heard the same thing... mid summer at the earliest. I decide to make the trip from PA to Victoria in my boat. I have a friend who explained the process with Customs, and did it this weekend. He parked the boat went to the sporting goods store, had lunch at the sticky wicket, and caught his 2 halibut on the way home. That sounds like a good day to me! I'll try it the next day the conditions will let me.

Is there a sporting goods store in downtown Vic ? That sells license?
THe only one I know of is the big one a mile or two down the hiway.

There's a gas station on the dock just before customs that sells bait, tackle and licenses. I don't remember the name but it will be on your starboard side as you come in the harbor towards the customs dock. To clear customs in Victoria you go to the customs dock and there's a phone. You call them and they may or may not clear you over the phone or come and see you in person. Either way make sure you have a passport or a picture ID and certified copy of your birth certificate.

Now that you won't be able to bring Canadian limits of halibut back to Washington waters, this kind of seems pointless.

I just checked the regulations online. There were not recent changes made pertaining to halibut. Right on page 1 of marine rules it says that halibut can be landed in a port closed for halibut fishing IF the angler has a canadian license. Unless there is something in the works that hasn't been made public yet..... I'm making the trip this weekend.

You can't land Canadian caught Salmon in a Washington port where the adjacent waters are closed.

Who came up with this? Is this another WT plot to inhibit fisherman?
