If you have a driftboat and have rod holders mounted for accessibility by the rower, where did you mount them and why? I want to put at least one, if not two, within reach of my rowing bench, but I can't decide if they should go in front of the oarlocks or behind. I've also considered mounting them on the back of the rowing bench.

Aside from keeping them out of the way of the oars when rowing, I don't see a clearcut obvious position for them. BTW, these are Fish-On rod holders in a Clackacraft with a side-pully anchor system, so the right side is probably out anyway considering the anchor rope.

what Any insight would be appreciated before I begin drilling holes...

put the rod holders in front of the oar locks, that way when you row you won't keep hitting your line.

Good point Josh! I'd thought about the various conflicts between the oar, the rod, and the holder, but hadn't thought about the line in the water....

I have mine on a sliding mount on the gun'l. Always ends up about a foot in front of the oar lock.

Just wonder why you would't put it down the center. Man, that center one gets some great bites!!!!!

That way a passenger could spool it out for you when necessary or even put the hurt on a bite when you were just to busy strokin' the sticks. I used to have mine there and the butt of the rod resting on the front seat, but it needs to be secured a bit for the major bite. I have had mine fly in the air a few times when just laying it there.

If you put it on the side I would put one on both sides so you could have your rod in the meat most of the time.
