Any of you digital camera buffs use a canon A70. curious to see what kind of results it might have with outdoor fishing pictures. Thought some of you might know. Looks like a good camera for the price. $265 for 3.2 megapixels.

I haven't used that particular model, but I have owned 2 other Canon models and have really liked them both. I strongly recommend Canon's Powershot Cameras.

I have the Canon Powershot A40 and for only being a 2.0 megapixel, it takes awesome pictures. I assume the one you are talking about is a nicer camera so I'm guessing you'll be happy with it.

Shawn,

Two months ago I did the whole camera review, looked at a ton of diff cameras, etc. etc.

I went with the Sony DSC-S85.
4 megapixel, decent zoom and all the features.

you can see a picture taken with that camera here:

Look around at all the local stores for what you want, then find a reputable e-tailer on ebay or elsewhere any buy the camera off the internet if you are looking to save money.

I have been a photog for years and shot for several newspapers and freelanced a few years back. Went completely digital 2 years ago and have yet to shoot a roll through my AE1 or F4 since changing over. I currently use an Olympus E-10 and have been extremely please with it. Keep in mind one thing. Megapixels are not the big factor as most think. It is just the latest buzzword that gets people to buy the camera. Always look for the TRUE or useful megapixels, as it is often exaggerated to boost sales. Secondly, remember that no matter how many MP it is, they are only as good as the CCD and lens that is on the camera. Pics may look good as 4 X 5, but blow them up to 8 X 10 and they can get pretty pixelated (grainy).
Buy as much camera as you can afford, you will not regret it. Also, keep in mind that if you use a inkjet or laser printer, the photos will fade pretty quickly (couple of years) and they will blotch just from the moisture in the air. I have an Olympus P400 that is a dye sublimation printer.... It actually burns the color onto the medium and is then sealed.. It is continuous tone (no dots), and waterproof. The color is not supposed to fade for 30+ years. People that look at my 8 X 10s swear they are real photo prints.
I cannot stress enough to stay away from the auto focus cameras in digital format. They do NOT focus fast enough for the Sturgeon or whale jump, etc. Make sure that what you buy has manual and autofocus or you will miss that shot of a lifetime, I guarantee it.
Hope this helps all!

Good Luck!

I just bought a digital camera recently and I'm happy with it, but I would have considered this one (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/stylus300.html) had I known about it. It's an Olympus Stylus 300 (there's a 400 too - 4 megapixel version) One of its main selling points is that it is highly water resistent. This doesn't mean you can drop it in the water, but you can pull it out safely in a downpour. For fishing purposes, sounds like a good camera to check out.

I just bought an Olympus 5050 at Circuit City and while I was there I noticed a Sony I'd never seen before.
I'm not a fan of Sony's due to the fact that they use they're propietary memory and I think there's cameras that take better pics, until you get up to the Sony 717, but thats big bucks.

Anyways, this Sony at Circuit City, wasn't much bigger than a pack of Juicy Fruit gum. You could slip this baby into your front pocket of your jeans and not notice it was there.

Something to check into for the fishing vest.

Hey, has anyone heard of an adapter you can put on your digital camera's to get extreme fine pics on your current digitals? I've seen some for the Canons, and give precise camera pics of bugs. I have a newer sony (only like 3.2 megapixels, not that it matters lol). But does a good job, but want to take good clear pictures of my flies and I heard some use these adapters on their camera's. Anyone else heard of these? Wanted some more info. From what I've read so far, they're awesome. Any other opinions?

We have had a Canon Powershot S-30 for about a year. I can honestly say that this is the best camera I have ever owned!! It is very easy to use, takes beautiful photo's, is very compact, and is one heck of a digital camera.

Steelheader69-

Does you camera take pictures in TIFF format?
That is the format most journalists use. Requires a ton of memory but well worth it for hi res shots and photomaking.

I have a 2 Sony cameras the 85 4mp which is awesome and the dsc 72 which is also great..who cares about proprietary memory? not like you interchange them anyway...I also have a Nikon which is great too but uses the 4 AAA batteries. The Sony battery is like what they use in their camcorders and lasts way longer than he others. The Canon G3 is a honey as well with a similar battery that lasts a long long time. I really like the Nikon 5700 but it costs too much.
