I am upgrading the kicker motor on my big boat. The 4 stroke Yamaha 8hp will be my engine of choice. Where should I go to buy one?
Thanks in advance!
BTW, This means I will be parting with my 1988 6hp Suzuki 2 stroke. Good little engine, but I just want a bit more for my heavy boat.
Andy

I just bought a Yamaha 2.5hp 4 stroke from Scot Graves at Bellevue Kawasaki-Yamaha Marine, 425-641-5040. He gave me best price out of all the Yamaha dealers I called.
They have the 8hp in stock.

I too have the Yamaha 8hp with all the bells and whistles. I called around and most all the dealers seemed to be within a few hundred dollars. The main concern that I have is dealing with a reputable dealer, that is why I purchased mine from Lighthouse Marine in Gig Harbor. That way if I need warrenty work done, I can have it done the right way. So.....even if it is a few more dollars go with a local dealer that "You" have some confidence in. BTW, when you go to pick up the four stroke, do not forget to lean it on the correct side, as the oil will come out if done improperly, Don't ask me how I know this.......the little tag will spell this out for you.

Andy,
I got one of those motors too on the new boat.
You know it was originally a sailboat motor... large prop with lots of torque.

FishNg, I didn't buy my Yami at Lighthouse but Dangerous Dave showed me the place and now I have them service mine. I have a 2002 25hp 4 stroke that needed some warranty work and I am really impressed with Lighthouse Marine!
DOGFISH- are you selling the old kicker? If so, and it is in good working order, I have a friend that may be interested if the price is right?
Good luck with the new Yami!

Andy, check with sandy's in everett. They were almost 400.00 cheaper then everyone else that I got a price check from. As for warranty work, you can have it performed at any yami dealer. Great motors and well worth the money. P.S Thanks for the trip last week, had a great time.

I think you live far enough south, why not go to Oregon and save 8.5%? NorthRiver Boats in Clackamas Oregon carries Yamaha.

Hate to 'rain on your parade' but the T8 Yamaha is NOT AVAILABLE anywhere in the NW or U.S. right now ---sold out -- delivery dates for 2004,s Aug./Sept. I just settled for a Honda 15, elec, 25", hydrolic tilt as a substitute for the T8. BUT very heavy!!!!! Purchased from Jon, at Sandy's and it was the last of 2 from CA distributor. Fair Price. ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/smile.gif)

Andy,
Valley Marine in Yakima still has some T8's. Called them this morning and they weren't sure what were pre-sold and what were extra but you might give them a call. (509) 453-6302.
Said the remote might be easier to get than the tiller handle.
I was looking at a used boat they had for sale last fall and ended up buying a new Lund with Yamahas on it from them. That's how I ended up over at Yakima.

At the risk of sparking the warranty debate, I got a F8 longshaft, with alternator, but it was tiller, rope start, in Canada for $1300 out the door. Been very happy for two years with that little kicker! Saved $800 over the cheapest I found, spent it on a nice GPS.
