Hello fellow fishers,

Are there any good areas to go crabbing between Seattle and Tacoma? If so, please do tell. We're going crabbing for the 1st time this year and would like input from experienced crabbers.

Thanks,

SalmonFisherJeff

Do you have a boat or looking for a dock? I do pretty good of the kayak point dock.

Thanks,

Seattle to Tacoma is a huge area. Narrow it down a little bit. Look on the charts for bays with creeks or rivers running into them. I've done best at the deeper depths 70-90ft.

part of area 8.2 is open now (fri-mon) and area 9 opens june 1. If you are looking for a place to try this weekend launch at Everett and drop them on Mission bar, near Pigeon creek or the north west side of hat island. You will know your in the area by seeing all the bouys floating around. thumbs

Yes that is a big area. We just need a few places between there to try crabbing but we're new to it and don't know any areas to crab. We mostly fish for Salmon but thought we'd give crabbing a try. So, if you know of a few places between Seattle and Tacoma (3-4), we'd really appreciate the input.

Thanks,

SFJ

I don't know where to tell you to go, but I have a good idea where you shouldn't. I was just reading the new regs and came across a very disappointing page (maybe this would be a good subject for a new topic) where there are warnings about what is safe to eat in what quantity from certain locations. It's page 22 in the new regs - and if you don't have the regs, you can look it up in the online version at the wdfw site - it's about midway through this pdf file (http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/regs/2003/03regs-4.pdf). Anyway, amongst other warnings such as women of childbearing age and children under 6 should not eat more than 2 servings of bass/month, it says that nobody should eat any bottomfish, shellfish, CRAB, or seaweed from Puget Sound/ King County. Quite a bummer! I hope this is not the first of more warnings, but who knows. Anyway, check out that page, and I guess stay away from Puget Sound/ King County crab. Good Luck.

The new fishing and hunting news has a map of crabbing locations in the sound.

The entrance to Quatermaster harbor on the Piner Point side is a good place to start if you are new to the area. 40-90 ft.
