This Saturday, I will be down by Bonneville and would like to do some shad fishing. Can anyone tell me some good techniques/rigging for banking it for shad? I know dicknites are good and I've heard of something called a shad dart, but don't really know what it is. How about rigging? How do you want to rig your set up? How much weight, etc?

Where I was at in washougal, I was using a 2.5 ft dropper for my weight with 4 oz. I was using a dick nite with about 3 ft of leader

Looking for a place to fish my 6wt without having to worry about snagging ears every cast. Any suggestions? Preferably somewhere within a 3-3.5hr driving distance from Olympia.

Both! A side trip to the Wind river was both interesting and somewhat productive. Didn't land any oversize sturgeon this year, but we didn't fish for them very long either. I hear that the concert was a pretty good time! ![beer beer](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/beer.gif)

JacobF - I've only been a few times, right below Bonneville and used shad darts by themselves and sometimes with a little weight a couple feet above the dart for casting distance. Almost all the Mom & Pop stores along the way sell the darts. The best technique for me was to find a current seam where fast water met slow and toss your lure there. There will be plenty of people so you should be able to get the hang of it pretty quick. Get a hand full of darts because they are cheap and you can count on losing a few.
