Did anyone hear the big fish of the weekend? When I checked the board sunday am, the top was 101, second was 75. I cant imagine the big one got bumped. I didn't enter, too crowded for me. I sat home and went over my charts plotting likely spots to try later. How lame is that? Maybe next year I 'll enter. I really dont get big fish, but I usually get something when I head out. Still learning.... oh well.

The top was 103 then 73 or so. We took 16th with a 46# unit. Paid the lodging, fuel and bait bills. First time ever up there. Chart research paid off. We got our limit of 3 on Saturday just before the Coast Guard called a Gale Warning in. The tide on Sunday was about slack at 10:45 and the money payout was 12 noon so we could only get 1 fish before we had to run back in. Small Craft warnings all Sunday too sucked!!

they say that the smaller halibut are the best eating.

I'm not sure about 60# but near the 100# mark and up it would be best to release them...few people do that around here because they are so hard to find. Best eating will be 25#-50# or so...I have eaten some around 70# and they were great too...trick is to eat them right away. Bleed the fish immediately and ice down for best results. Ifg your halibut gets a little fishy tasting like they do really quick then soak the fillets in milk over night. Takes most of the skank out.

elkrun..don't get me wrong..If I had fished the derby and caught a 100# fish I wouldn't be letting it go...I said we SHOULD release the bigguns...Personally I like Bigguns best
