Obviously, I'm brand new to this forum, and first of all I want to say this is definately the most kick-*** fishing site for the northwest on the web. I've been going crazy looking for good sites, and I'm glad I found this!

I'm about to graduate from high school in a few weeks, and when I do I'm headed off to the United States Air Force Academy (Go Falcons!) in Colorado Springs, and I pretty much only have less than a month left to fish the Northwest. I've lived in Vancouver, WA my whole life and I've only caught two salmon, both six years ago with a friends family over by bouy ten, and never even seen a steelhead. Any suggestions or tips you have for a rookie looking to land a few steelhead or springers in a month would be awesome. By the way, I live in Vancouver, WA, but driving is not really an issue. I'll go anywhere in pursuit!

Thanx ahead of time!!

PS I'm thinking of hitting the Wind River this Saturday. I've been there once before, but no luck. Any tips? Thanx again!

First off, congrats on your appointment to the Air Force Academy. That is an awesome opportunity for you and I hope you do well.

Now for the fishin'! If you don't do well at the Wind you might want to try the Kalama, it should still be putting out some Springers and also have some Summer runs showing. Plus, on June 16th the Big C opens up for Summer Run Chinook! Do you have access to a boat or will you be doing most of your fishing from the bank? If you are Banking it I'd hit the Canyon on Kalama, from a boat I'd definately be hitting the Columbia on June 16!

Go to blue creek on the cowlitz. Combat and fish at it's best. Watch, learn, then pick a rock and go for it. Good Luck, and don't leave anything in your car.

Thanx guys!!

I'm pretty much stuck to the bank, although I may have access to a drift boat...nothing with a motor though. I can't wait to give all your suggestions a try. First off, though, I'm hitting the Wind tomorrow bright and early...wish me luck!! *fingers crossed*
