A resident spotted a body floating down the Skykomish River near Big Eddy State Park, East of Gold Bar last Monday.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's office responded to a 911 call made by the resident around 3:30 p.m. and were able to retrieve the male body in the town of Startup.
According to Sheriff's Department Spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen, the body was being pushed downstream by the current and was found face down in the water.
The body appeared to be in the river for days, allowing authorities to believe the death did not occur during the Memorial Day holiday, said Jorgensen.
The Monroe Fire Department boats joined county helicopters, boats and a dive team to help with the search. No recent calls for missing persons have been reported in the county.
Medical examiners have yet to identify the male or release information on the cause of death. The male has been described as white, 50-plus years old, 5'6'', 170 pounds with balding grayish-brown hair. He also has a one-inch scar below his right kneecap.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's office is asking those with any information about the incident or identity of the man to please call the department tip line at (425) 388-3845.
