Anyone heard anything about sockeye in Lake Washington or out in the salt yet this year? I've got a friend who live near point on point and was wondering about hitting them in the salt????

They just started posting the counts on the WDFW website. So far the run is coming in low (only 4 days # as of today). With most fish being on time this year, they need to pick up in numbers soon if there is to be a Lake fishery. You may want to check the regs before targeting them in the salt.

yea ive herd that before and the next thing you know is there will be a season well i hope thats the case again this year thats a fun time out there besides the wait at the boat ramps.

I heared that fishing is good for them out in the Strait. You might want to try out of Shilshole. Buzzbombs, small ones, are supposed to work as well as the flasher and red hooks.

I'm pretty sure salmon fishing is closed in area 9 and 10 right now (except for the catch and release thing)so I wouldn't try it.

A few years back they put a bonus limit on sockeye in the san juans to try to drum up fishing interest in saltwater sockeye but very few people tried it so they shut it down after a few years. If you guy's want to try agian call wdfw and ask for a season they may be willing to try it. I know they target them from time to time in canada some of the charter guys up there can really nock them dead.

July 1 is the first day you can try. I'll be there outside of the Shilshole line trying out some of the Port Alberni tricks I learned last year - works on humpies and even kings too so may not be a total waste of time
