I jusy put 4 new sea scuppers on the boat last night. The ones made by Flow-master that have the ball in them (rabud also makes them). I was wondering who all has used them and what they thought of them? They sure do seem to be a lot better than the scuppers with just a rubber flap... what

PM,
I have a fairly new Trophy Pro with scuppers that have the rubber flap. Haven't experienced any problems with them yet. What made you change yours out? confused

I used to have the rubber scuppers and water was always coming in through them. BAcking down always guaranteed a good flow coming into the boat. I converted to the ball type about five years ago and haven't had water come in a single time. You made the right choice.

Dave, The rubber ones tend to start warping and let the water in. My boat sits in the water all the time so I have got to do what I can to keep any 'extra' out.. I went to the BOC, baylinerownersclub.com , people mentioned them there.

Here's a great link that talks about scuppers and how poorly some boats are designed. Should give you some ideas about keeping your boat dry.

Don\'t let your boat sink

I use the ball-type scuppers on my Olympic. They work great for a couple years, then need replaced. The rubber edges get stiff, so the ball doesn't seal very well.

After reading that article about sinking boats, I've got bigger problems than a worn-out scupper. Mine are basically right at the water line. With a full tank of gas and a cooler full of fish/crab on the swimstep, they actually sit under the water line!

Good thing it stays on the trailer most of the time!

I've been on the water overnight in the rain and never had any problems with water on the deck or in the bilge. Where's it all going?

I saw the ones with the balls in them at Boaters World on the display rack. I saw the discussion on baylinerownersclub.com too. Myflies, I believe, was the one who used them with success. I recently switched to them. I have had fantastic results. The 20' Trophy has a serious design problem with the scuppers being under water and then filling the fishwells. The rubber flappers are only good fore a limited time before they curl. My concern about the balls is how fast can they drain if you were to take a huge wave over the side in the ocean. I have not had a problem with them yet.

Here is another I dea that I had, but my swimstep brace is in the way. See what you think. These look foolproof. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/sto...;keyword=303927
