I live in Kitsap county and am interested in starting to stealhead fish. I don't have a boat so I will be fishing from shore can anyone give me some advise on were to go, what to use am interested in day trips to rivers on the pennisula.

first off you need to spell steelhead properly i don't know what other experience fishing you have so i would suggest reading a few books bill herzogs color guide to steelhead drift fishing will give some insight to where in the rivers to fish what to use what kind of rods and reels and what methods to use which ever method or methods you choose will dictate what kind of gear you purchase you could also go to sportco in tacoma and talk to him I'm sure he would sell you some gear and get you headed in the right direction another way would be to hire a good guide or just go to the coast and talk to fisherman on the river most are willing to share imfo if your willing to listen as for driving to the coast from kitsap county to fish for the day its roughly a six hour round trip or more i usually like to spend a night or two the one day red eye runs don't give you enough time to enjoy yourself good luck

How you spell steelhead is not going to have a damn thing with catching a steelhead

Everything said above and I will add something.

Undisturbed steelhead are VERY easy to catch.They have this myth about them that they are smarter than us and are hard to catch.They are not.All I do is put something shiny on the end of my line and cast.works good........if there are steelhead in the river!That is the biggest key to catching steelhead is timing the run,not what you use.

I am one of the lucky ones that got to spend a few years of hard work before catching a steelhead.I ran around the hood canal trying everything but dynamite,thinking,damned these fish are hard to catch.Later I learned that the Zog had already caught them all and I was casting to empty rivers.Once I figured out the timing of the runs I began to have a blast.

When I say timing I am referring to the window of time when the fish are entering the rivers to spawn.Around here,within the fishing season, it is really only a freshet or two.On the coast it can be a couple of months.Every river is differant.

As a matter of fact right now might be one of those windows.....Maybe that is why I am up so early...never can sleep when there are stealhead in the rivers!

Maybe I should not have used the word argument. All I'm saying is that this thread is starting to get post's that have nothing to do with peninsula steelheading.

ltlCLEO checked out your site nice pics of some familiar looking canyons sounds like you had a fun weekend. hopefully i can get out next weekend or at least sunday not sure about my work schedule yet. this weekend the wife had me tied up don't know where she learned to tie knots like that
