I wish I was goning to have the opportunity to show you the river at its best, but we'll work on penning a few up for you to play with when you show up. We're seeing a few early second-run fish mixed in at the moment, so let's all keep our fingers crossed that we'll have decent numbers in the river when you get here smile Hopefully a few more reds will show for you as well, they've been a little slow to get going in most areas frown

How has the fishing been?? I am getting pumped to get up there!! I talked to Tony the
skipper of our Halibut trip and he told me the weather has been different than most years?
He also got the biggest fish for May and 3rd place also he also has 3rd and 5th for June so
I hope everthing calms down nicely and we can
get out to Afognak!! Keep a couple 2nd runs tied up for us!! If you get us into a BIGONE
dinner will be on us at the place of your choice!! Oh ya that includes Fishgal also!! See ya soon!! <img border="0" alt="[eat]" title="" src="graemlins/eat.gif" />

First-run kings are pretty much done, we've been seeing a decent number of second-run fish show for this time of year ... like this 40'ish fish we got a couple of days back.

Things have slowed a lot the past few days in response to 60 hours straight of commerical netting. We're hoping that they'll ease up a tad this week to keep the flow of fish up for us smile

Here's a chart to see what the nets can do to the sockeye run:

Unfortunately, they nets can't tell the diff between kings and reds evil frown

I'll try to make sure a few show for us and then we'll have to do one of those 24 oz. blackened prime ribs at Louie's smile

When we get up there that one would be a keeper wouldn't it?? 24 ozs of prime rib would keep you rowing for a day or 2 with all that protein plus a couple hard pops to wash it down!!

Yep, restrictions of single hook, clipped fish only, and dropping a rod after you retain a fish all come off tomorrow. Life is back to normal smile

24 oz. will last me a couple of holes with "the barge", better have some steamers too wink

I usually like to wear mediums ... tight to start with but they are much easier to row in smile

With a saltwater blow-off this morning, I ended up fishing today (we put all 12 of our current guests on the Kenai today for the bait opener) after all ...

a few more fish are trickling in with a brief reprieve with the netting schedule, did land a 47 pound buck tonight. I tried to tie him up for you, but the fell insisted it was his smile

I'll try again tomorrow. I'll post some pix of the fish when he gets home and emails them to me, with a supposed day off, I sent the digicam over to Seward with Corey for her playday ... figures!!

An update: they're off to Kodiak for some saltwater action, hopefully the weather will remain like it is, calm, very warm, and loads of sunshine!

As expected, action wasn't up to mid-season form on the Ditch, but we managed to find a few fisheys and got to show the fellas that you indeed can catch some big kings on the Peninsula with virtually the entire river to yourself!

Here's a dandy:

Hopefully, they'll find some monster butts and some giant lings to round out the trip nicely! I'm sure they'll let us know how things went down south! wink

I guess nice fish!

How much did that monster weigh?

I can't believe how bright it is for that size.
