How will Sekiu be doing around this time? Will the pinks and coho be in? Can I fish here with a 14ft aluminum boat with a 25 hp motar? I already know to jig, mooch, and troll. Thanx!

Thanx for the info. Even if the chinook quota is filled can you still fish for coho and pinks, I don't see why not but I'll check. I plan to be going after the coho anyway, but a nice big king would be fun even if I have to release it. Any other tips people can give?

Yes, Hatchery Coho and Pinks will be open regardless the Chinook quota being reached or not.
I can't imagine that the Chinook quota will be filled in 2 weeks. We are talking 3,500 Hatchery Kings. I think someone said they thought the ratio will be something like 5:1, Wild to Hatchery fish. Either way you look at it, it will be a great time going after these brutes!

Hi FishingJunk,

I would think there would be some kings left, hopefully until the end of July if the quota hasn't been met.

I have seen many folks in boats your size, and I first started fishing there in my 14 footer about 15 years ago. Just keep your speed slow, and watch the weather.

One piece of gear I would suggest is a GPS to get in and out if there is fog. Light gear is fine, sometimes just a 2 oz banana sinker and a plug cut herring. If you don't have downriggers, just use a deep six to get down.

Mornings are usually the calmest water, and we start fishing once we hit about 50 feet of water. Two years ago we did this and regularly had two or three fish to the boat by the time we got out to the green can off of Slip Point. You can always stay insde on a rough day and fish the little bay, just watch out for the kelp.

Bring some salt and pepper sluggos for the early morning when the silvers are sipping krill off of the surface. Just idle your boat and cast to the rises.

Have fun, I may see you out there.

I fished there the first of July last year and got over 40 coho in 2 days. The King limit was reached I believe in a week or so. Are the regs different this year?

Beginning in August, you will have a 4 fish a day limit, so if you are looking to put some meat in the freezer, that would be my choice. The silvers are in full swing, along with lots of pinks. There are still enough "bonus" kings out there to wake you up.

Have fun!
