Hey South Sounders-
Are you of the opinion that the bulk of migratory Chinook travel through Colvos Passage or around the east side of Vashon on their way to to all waters south?

Anyone have any hard evidence or scientific studies?

Duro, Understood, I considered that the same as around the east side of Vashon.

Execellent question! I've often wondered the same thing. Either nobody fishes Colvos below Southworth, or it's a zipperlip. I do know that last year, Pt. Robinson did not live up to previous years averages, but I did see some nice action at Three Tree Point. Redondo was fair to good. I would bet that a good 50% or more of the fish that run down the east side of Vashon, turn the corner at Pt. Robinson(just my opinion).

According to my Wagoneer's book, the current always flows north thru Colvos. It seems like that may deter some of the smarter salmon.

Yes that is kind of strange but true about Colvos passage. Probably makes for some interesting current rips during the incoming around Southworth etc. beer

Colvos passage actually is a well hit area. Great with downriggers. BUT, when the salmon are in the commercials will hit that stretch. I know alot of the commercial guys out in Gig Harbor (since I deliver to alot of the marina's and docks) and it's a favorite stretch. I've also fished some private beaches along it near the Pierce/Kitsap county lines and have done QUITE well. Just, that current can REALLY rip through there. But, you have many levels of current. What you have on top isn't what you'll have all the way to the bottom. I do know ALOT of guys troll through there, and have seen many nets come out landing fish while I sit on lunch break or watch as I deliver to beachfront houses out there. Not sure what I'm gonna do now, once I get back to work, I officially have an intown Gig Harbor route. No more fishing on my lunch breaks. DANG!!!!!!!!

The majority of the fish are "west siders." The fish returning on the eastern side are mostly all Puyallup fish. The "west-siders" are returning the Nasty, Chambers, McAllister, Deshutes, and Minter. Also, the majority of Silvers hit the west side too... as well as Chums.

One of the best stretches to fish is the Cable Crossing down to Pt Evans... The Girl Scout Camp is also another spot worth trying...
About the 3rd week in July, switch over to the Slag Pile and fish out in the deeper water. The travel path of most fish will be outside the normal boat traffic fishing closer in.

I don't fish the east side for returning fish unless I am over off the Puyallup.

Hey there Sky-Guy,

Last year early Aug, buddy and I did pretty well just South of the Southworth ferry from Lincoln Park (Area 11). Kings like to hold up there also. My buddy kills them at 3 tree late July. Its getting near.

Sorry to bring this back up from the dead. But when you say cable crossing, you talking about the one just south of Fragaira? And where is this slag pile? I usually just read these forums, but couldnt pass up trying to find a good place to catch fish, I've been skunked the past bunch of times out
