A 28 pound king destroyed this coho killer on tuesday. I was lucky to have landed it. This is also my first attempt to put a picture with a post after MANY failed attempts on the test board... here it goes!

Elk,

Nice feeeesssshhh! Got a pix?

You can prevent this happneing again by placing a 40# or 70# stainless barrel swivel between the spilt ring and hook. The fish can't gain an leverage off the lure this way and the hook will won't tear out of the fish while twisting.

downriggin-
the barrel swivel is there if you look close. The fish had another hook in its mouth, a big hook like on a plug. My hook was directly next to it in the fishes mouth. I think the lure was getting worked over by the other hook best I can tell. I have a pix, but its just sitting on top of my cooler.... not real pretty. Was incredible on the barbeque though!

My girlfriend got her first king last year. A 35# buck. She was tossing a #5 sized flashnglo in gold. The fish literally hit that lure sideways, and had imbedded it's teeth into the blade (making a referse bend out of it lol ) and bending the crap out of the shaft/components. Landed the fish, clipped the lure off, took off the hook, and gave it to her as a souvenier for her first king (since, it was pretty much unfishable at that point). She now has it on her key ring. laugh

Awesome fish! Where did you catch it at?

You will have to give that lure a proper burial. It did a fine job. thumbs

Caught it out of of neah bay. Fishing 140 feet down in 200 feet of water. Its kind of weird because most of our other fish were at 50-70 feet. I was charting lots of bait balled up from 100-130 feet, and could see a few fish underneath. so I lowered down and tried to troll right below the ball. He hit, and just about spooled me. I didn't get another fish at that depth for the next 2 days....

That is one beautiful fish.... A fatty too!
I sure miss being home now! It won't be too long until I am wetting a line, but I'll still miss the season.

I see the swivel now... I was under a Tiger (beer) influence last night...

Elkrun, I can't tell from the pic whether the adipose is clipped or not. Was it a hatchery? If so it's encouraging to see one that size for those of us planning to hit area 5 soon. Also, it almost appears to be a Fraser river white king (real fat with small head)?

stlhead - That looks like a fish that we used to call a Fraser River football - not sure if the Canadians clip all their fish.

Yeah I'm not sure if they clip either. I just read the SU sight and they report a pretty good clipped ratio at Neah Bay which is encouraging.

Not clipped. I haven't seen a clipped fish there so far this year. Either wild fish are making a huge comeback or they aren't clipping all that many. I'm worried about the selective fishery coming up next week. I dont forsee the 1 to 5 ratio they are talking about. I'm somewhere around 0 for 20 or more. I haven't seen a fin clipped silver yet either.... frown

The fish measured 39 x 23.75

I just read Big Salmons weekly report... they mentioned the White Kings too. If thats referring to white meat, this one wasn't one. I also noticed that they are getting another 1 day halibut opener, with potential for another!

Last year, fishing with my dad at Neah, we got a racing strike on a coho killer and the spoon broke right after the round clip. frown I've had silvers bend one as well and it hasn't seemed to fish as well since and I've quit using it.
