I think you have to run down to the snake for your best chance.

ironfisherman,
if i was to be fishing near pullman for steelies, i would head to ahsahka, which is up highway 12 till you get to orofino , take a left, go over the bridge and on take the first left & then its another 3 miles till you get to ahsahka., jus ask for directions if you get lost, i fish over there for a week in december and another in feb, it can be fantastic fishing there with bobber and jig on the north fork of the clearwater, if you happen to head that way, give this guy a call, jimmy dodge, 208-476-7515, he has all the tackle you will need and plenty of info on where to go, i will be over there this december for a week or so, i fish up by the dam, and the pole yard hole, both spots can be very productive and this year is supposed to be a really good run of stealhead, so give jimmy a call when your in the area, he also has lodging available..

Without an Idaho license, I would try fishing above Asotin on the Washington side. Drive through Clarkston and follow the signs past the town of Asotin. Lots of bank access above town , on the Snake. Fly fisherman work the bar in front of the restaurant at Three mile, and all the way up to and including the Grande Ronde River mouth area. The best months for me have been October and November. Good luck. Go Cougs!

Not too much in way of steelhead right now, but right above Granite Dam is pretty decent in Sept and Oct. Not the most exciting fishing, but a lot of fish are caught there.

I used to fish the Tucannon a lot when I lived over there. The mouth is usually a good bet when it opens Sept 1st. A lot of private property around Starbuck, but most are pretty good about allowing fishing. The Touchet also gets a good run of fish, but that doesn't usually start to pick up until mid to late winter right in Dayton....both about and hour and a half away.

Then of course, the lower Grande Ronde in October and November is incredible. That's about 2 hours, but WELL worth it.

When I lived in Pullman my favorite fishin hole was the catch and release area on the Grande Ronde. The road runs next to the river and there is good bank access. I could almost always catch at least one steely and when the fishing is hot it is almost unbelievable. Got alot of friends into their fist steelhead down there. Good luck
