Got a trip planned for the first week of September with some buddies.

Anyone ever fish Sitka that time of year?

Should have a lot of silvers on hand. I hope!

How about the BUTTS, are they still available?

Thanks in advance.

I think you've picked the best place in Alaska to fish the salt.

Can't help with September. My friends and I go during the last half of June. Kings, Silvers and Buts have always been abundant at that time. I don't see why Silvers and Buts wouldn't be there in September.

Good luck!

The first week of Sept. can be awesome for big Coho! I was there a few years ago during that week and we nailed lots of Coho. The halibut fishing is still good as we had several over 100#. I even scored a bonus 38# chrome Chinook hen! The weather is usually very mild and the ocean flat. Have fun! You picked a beautiful place to fish and a great time to go.

Tight lines,

Mid August is prime halibut fishing, so early September should be very good for halibut & big coho.

The state of Alaska did a study on the "best fishing" in the state. It took into consideration all kinds of factors, but mainly a ratio of the number of hours expended fishing for the poundage of fish caught.

Sitka won.

I have fished Sitka the last week of August, and the first week of September. We scored heavy on coho all day average fish about 8lbs, many 13-14-15lbs to go with the smaller fish. We also hooked many kings and a group of 4 picked up about 4 kings a day. The halibut was good but the yelloweye, ling, was fantastic. Many 15lb yelloweye in the boat each day. 4 of us came back with 900lbs of fish. Yummy.. We had to go out to the open water to get our fish and the run to the grounds is about 30 minutes. Weather is mild and the water was not like glass but still fishable each day. We went with Kains Fishing Adventures, 26ft Sea sport, 26ft Orca, all gear is top of the line and food was great...

SITKA SIMPLY KICKS ASS... ENJOy

If you really want to be successful, check out Seth Bones' charter operation - www.kingfishercharters.com . My wife went to high school with him in Sitka and he runs a great operation.
