Just wondering if anyone out there knows the deal with the hoodsport hatchery zone rules. I was out fishing for pinks the other day and a man and his boy pulled just inside the bouys with his boat and was just about to start fishing when I fisherman on the bank told him he couldn't have his boat in there. I was a little amazed so I grabbed my regs and found absolutely nothing restricting a boat from inside the bouys. Wanting to make sure, I called the WDFW (fisheries divsion). They told me that there are no restrictions and the guy on the bank was wrong. They said Just be curtious of the bank fisherman, which I thought was fine. I know that during the chum run that there are boats all over inside the bouys. Anyone out there heard anything different?

This sounds like the old Disputes between the bank fisherman and boat fisherman at Point Wilson from years ago when there was a fishery at the Point Wilson Hole there would be about 150 boats trying to fish the hole and a like number fishing it from the bank. All would go well until the Bank Fisherman would start bouncing Point Wilson Darts & Buzz Bombs off boats intentionally and hook a boat fisherman and then someone would get upset and make a high speed pass down the beach. When this happens it can become an interesting fishery. In most cases during the Point Wilson run both sides tried to respect each other, but then some hot head would come along and then the fireworks began. I know as I used to fish both the Beach and from a Boat and participated in the games a feew times. In most cases we respected each other but on several occassions I have made the High Speed Pass especially after being intentionally hit by the same individual or group of individuals repeatedly.

ACT, I don't blame you for being a little mad about some trying to hook you. I do agree with you both sides should give way to the other so that all can enjoy. I know that there are some that can't figure out this concept. Thanks.

Also don't forget that the special regs for Hoodsport ( in perticular 4 fish per day) only apply in side those bouy's.

I thought the bouys were there to mark the area that the swimmers use for their little diving excursions.. like stay out side when divers are active...at least those were the pussies that yelled at us last time there. smile

Papaslap, I hear ya. I think if you are brave (dumb) enough to get into that water and dive/swim with all of those buzz bombs flying then a boat anchored in 6 feet of water is the least of your problems.

People who take there boats inside the hoodsports hatchery zone have to be really hard up and definetly dont have a clue! There is chums running every system in the canal and most are in better shape than the ones in hoodsport. Boats have access to alot more water than bankies! Isnt it kinda stupid for a boater to head straight to a banker spot? It happens all the time, in freshwater too.

You know micro sometimes I wonder about you. I think the first couple of posts established that it is not a bankies zone. You just think it is. If someone wants to fish there to take part in the increased daily limit that is thier choice.

And if the state says it is ok that should be good enough. The last time I looked you were not making the laws around here.

keep the boats out of the hatchery zone!!!! it's bad enough they chase the schools around all out in front of the zone, never allowing the fish to even get within casting distance of the bankie, then they have the audacity to follow them into the zone?? guaranteed lead is flying..bankies are stuck to just a very small portion of the canal, the boats can chase them the rest of the 99.999% of the canal...STAY OUT OF THE HATCHERY ZONE!!!!!

I am with Micro on this one.
Laws and regulations are good and all, but it is the common sense that some boaters are missing. You can judge a person's intelligence and moral values based on this kind of stuff.

I was watching people on the docks just past the hatchery chasing the schools around just as bad.

The truth is there are very few fish that are not snaged at the hatchery, by ANY fisherman banky or boater.

My point is just because you are stuck on the shore you do not have the right to launch Buzz Bombs at boaters that are legally achored in a place the state says that you can have your boat. Just because you don't want them there.

Is that the kind of morals you are talking about?

When I got to the HoodSport Hatchery,

I actually go just North of the Hatchery,
next to a dock that belongs to that hotel .
That way I don't go absolutely APESH&*& on
some of the folks on the bank. But on the otherhand, even when I throw on the waders
and hit the bank, I still can't stand some of those folks on the bank. I think that you're gonna get A$$&*LES any way 'ya look at it,
boaters or bankies, can all be a problem.
It's just a matter of courtesy.
