If either of the two (younger) guys who were fishing today - Mon, 8/4 - at Three Tree in the midsize Arima monitors this board, I could really use some tips. PLEASE email me! pday74@yahoo.com My buddy and I were in the 15' white center console skiff.

In my 30 days or so fishing on the sound (this is my 1st season) I have yet to see anyone boat that many nice fish, esp in a group of boats where everyone else is averaging 0 using what appears to be the same tackle. That was seriously unreal.

Sideoff, one thing I've noticed is speed. Every fish I've hit been at 2.4 to 2.6 mph. Green Hot spot with a light green glow ticket has been the ticket. Did well Saturday over at Beal. Been hitting most of my fish in that area around 90 to 100 feet with my DR's at 71 feet.
go get'em man fishy .

Like Erndog said, speed is important.

I don't know how fast I troll because my speed-o is broken but I like an angle in my 'rigger cable like this----> /

Thanks for the tip Erndog. Where is Beal, is this in Area 11 as well?

I try to stay in the 2-3 mph range by watching the DR cables but lately I've been in a bit of a slump so I have been varrying it around to experiment. I'll have to fire up the gps next time out to double check the speed. I monitored speed relative to these guys today to make sure we were in the same zone.

Same speed, same depth, same line along the shore, similar tackle. They had what looked like red flashers--mine are the green/glow--with green hootchies. Their leaders were also longer. Seemed like they could barely get their line down without a pickup. We had two lines in the water without a single takedown all afternoon, unless you count a flounder :-)

Depends on what you are targeting. heres what works for me. If it's kings, run your leader 42-44" behind the hotspot, the speed for me is 1.8-2 mph for kings. Just fast enough to get a good roll with the flasher. For silvers same leader length, but I switch to tube flies and pick up the speed to between 2.5-3 mph. You also might pick up some Coho Killer and Coyote spoons. Run them 40" or so behind the flasher, same speeds apply. Oh ya did I mention stink...filet some frozen herring and marinade it in anise extract and a good shot of WD 40 in a butter dish overnight. Adda a strip to the hooch. Just use herring smelly jelly on the spoons, not the strips. The strips will kill the action.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh
PS,
First 30 days fishing, pay close attention to those that are catching. Pay some dues. Spend more days on the water. Pay more close attention. Pay some more dues....you get it. We all have been there, have patience it will come and when it does you will have that grin goin' that those guys in the Arima had. They have probably spent a ton of fishless days on the water to get to what you saw this weekend. Then to keep the karma right pass what you know on to someone else!!!

Agree with Easy, like my DR's in an angle. I use stricley 10lb balls. Beal is located straight across from 3 tree. You want to work from south to the point north. Let me know if you give it a try and how you do.
