A buddy of mine has one of these rigged with a stradic 2000, its his summer-time jig fishing steelhead / salmon rod. To tell the truth I need another rod like a hole in head, BUT this one looks & feels pretty sweet, and whould fill a hole in my arsenal. He loads his shimano with 12 lb. spiderline to the dink-float then lead, barrel swivel and 4 or 6 lb. ultragreen to the jig of choice........

I've got 2 of them, both custom made with regular spinning handles. They are great rods for all types of uses!

Why do they set them up with the reelseat toward the butt? Is there some advantage to it, like more leverage.....?

The design of that rod with the SK style reel seat is that the weight of the reel being towards the back of the rod will balance out the additional length in the rod..
they are actually pretty popular
