Decided to brave the Skok this morning. Glad I did. Took home a chrome bright 20 pounder after a few hours of fishing. Fishing was generally pretty good -- lotta fish in the river. Lotta people, too, but I was pleasantly surprised by the decorum of those fishing around me. No idiots, nobody blantly dredging the water with a weighted treble, nobody keeping snagged fish. Not a River Runs Through It, but not the gong show I've seen before. Probably had a lot to do with the game warden hanging around! smile

sounds like you lucked out.....Ive been down there about 3 times so far and most of the time it was a real zoo. the fish were confined to a couple of spots, and there were hooks flyin everywere...then the locals showed up with their dry flies ( treb and lead) and made it a real chore....nother week or so and there should be more fish which will spred people out..can be a good spot to fish....good luck

I went out last thrusday right after high tide and didnt see a single fish anywhere. I heard of a couple of people landing one but they were far and few between.

the skokomish fishery disgusts me...sure it gets it's fish each year but each year more and more idiots are on the water, and a lot of these idiots truly think they are real "anglers"...i fish amongst them quite often, besides the nasty, it is the closest to my home, and 95% of these "anglers" get at least 1 "hook set" per cast...it's almost like clockwork, cast..let it drift for a few seconds, and ready, set JERK!!! i have enjoyed myself many days on the skok later in the year when the river is high and all that are present is chums but without lead and corkies zipping by their face and across their backs, these fish are more than willing to bite...people out there are not getting bites, i don't care if they've gotten lucky and happened to floss one(and let me tell you, i am a top notch flosser and the folks i see out there for the most part have no clue as to what they're doing), or if they have just snagged one in the face, i did see a gamer let a guy keep his snagged in the gillplate fish last week, thing is i saw the 10 or so hooked in the ass fish before he got one even near it's head..not to mention the natives and their skokomish dry flies(5/0 treble, 4 oz of lead wrapped on the shank) casting perpendicular to everyone standing elbow to elbows drift, snagging a couple of people's line each and every time they take their three step drop and pull..this place is a joke but i will continue to fish it and tolerate the crap that goes on out there as there is nothing i can do about it, the gamers are there but nothing ever happens..oh well i just want to fish so say hi if you see me out there, i'm the shaved headed, darker skinned fella in the breathables and always carrying a backpack....happy fishing(but probably not out here!!)

Yes, the Skok can be an unpleasant fishery. But there are idiots everywhere there are car-accessible salmon. I fish it becuase 1) I know the river okay; 2) it has fish; 3) I have a high tolerance for idiots. The one hookset per cast thing is comical. I agree that most fish are flossed, but some do bite. I've had some solid hits and hookups.
